Unloved 66 snub finds forever home

What dash model is that 66? Looks like a recessed cylinder but non-pinned barrel?

It’s a Dash-4, CBR92XX serial

These things never happen to me. lol

That, Sir, is a thing of beauty.

You, sir, win the Man of Few Words award with 5 posts in 14 YEARS. I am humbled you used one of them on my thread! :D

Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread, I appreciate the kind words.

When I saw the "before" photos, all I could think of was "fun project"! You sure did a nice job.

A 4" 66-2 was my first handgun and still an all-time favorite.

I found an ugly 66 stinking up a gun case that nobody wanted, and filled out the government adoption papers to take it home.

The finish is….challenged, but the action is the tightest K-frame I’ve ever felt.

It makes me sad when I see revolvers that were not taken care of. Part of it is being nostalgic because in the Police Academy our revolvers had to be immaculate every day for a 'daily inspection'.

When stainless steel revolvers first came out people thought they were 'Maintenance Free' and require little care. Stainless does not mean Rustproof.

It looks good now and thank you for sharing.

What are the original grips? They look a little like Uncle Mike's, except for the finger grooves.

Those are Byron's "Vintage" boot grips. I bought a set for a RB N frame years ago. They're extremely compact and were closed out for under $10.

This. ^^^^

I have large hands and don’t really like boot grips as a consequence. The smooth portion from toe to heel of these grips allows pinkie purchase and a secure hold.

Excellent ergonomics, highly recommended. I will be restoring my example and putting into rotation.

Very nice. I am jealous. Uh, do you take in, uh, refinishes? :)

That’s very kind of you! I don’t mind experimenting on my orphaned guns, but would be uncomfortable attempting to do it on someone else’s baby. :D

Please feel free to PM me if you’d like some assistance with methods and supplies.

A trip through the ultrasonic cleaner, a few brass brushes, and some 3M pads later….

I was just about to suggest that very strategy. Give me some light grey Scotch Brite pads and some time and most any SS S&W can be made to look much better! Remember to always follow the grain of the steel.

Nice job. What was the corrosion on the hammer? Looks like it had been peened.

BTW, how is Pigpen doing!?

Kaaskop49
Shield #5103

That collection of multicolored gunk appeared to be some combo of fossilized Remoil and paint marker.

Pigpen is fine, thanks! Currently wearing a set of Mexican Peyote Nightmare grips that a buddy may or may not have purchased while drinking.
