So as not to run afoul of our host, please do not reply but only be aware of the fact that perhaps an unprecedented number of gun control bills have been introduced to the Texas legislature with more on the way; and despite the current narrow support I ask that you let your legislators know where you stand. Thank you!

Here is a partial list as provided by the NRA:

House Bill 930 by Rep. Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) repeals the Lone Star State's "Castle Doctrine" law.

House Bill 1163 by Rep. Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) allows municipalities with a population of more than 750,000 to vote on whether to prohibit License To Carry holders from openly carrying handguns within city limits.

House Bill 1164 by Rep. Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) expands the prohibited places that apply to License to Carry (LTC) holders in Penal Code Section 46.035 to include facilities such as golf courses, amphitheaters, auditoriums, theaters, museums, zoos, botanical gardens, civic centers and convention centers, provided they are posted off-limits.

House Bill 1169 by Rep. Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) creates the offense of knowingly selling a firearm to another at a gun show without conducting the transfer through a licensed dealer, which would involve completing extensive federal paperwork and payment of an undetermined fee.

House Bill 1207 by Rep. Eddie Rodriguez (D-Austin) makes it a crime for a person to fail to report a lost or stolen firearm within five days of the person becoming aware that the gun was lost or stolen.

House Bill 1236 by Rep. Vikki Goodwin (D-Austin) allows public colleges and universities to opt-out of Texas' campus carry law. (An identical bill, HB 1173, was also filed by Rep. Rafael Anchia.)

It would be advisable to post the bill numbers so that Texans can contact their reps about the specific bills they oppose.
THAT is the best purpose for this forum.

Thank you, in the future I will know that mentioning bill numbers is not banned as politics.

The Texas State Rifle Association does a great job informing the members of what is going on in Austin and they do a great job protecting and honoring our firearms rights, I highly encourage any Texas member of the S&W Forum to join, I am a life member of the TSRA. Hell any of you non Texans can join too, I mean how fun would it be to say that you are a member of the Texas State Rifle Association?

It should be noted that the NRA also reported on several pro-gun/pro-Second Amendment bills that have now been introduced in the Texas state legislature.

Quoting from the NRA-ILA website:

House Bill 1009 by Rep. Will Metcalf (R-Conroe) clarifies the definition of "school-sponsored activity" in the Texas Penal Code to avoid the establishment of roving gun-free zones in buildings or areas that are not owned by or under the control of a school or postsecondary educational institution.

House Bill 1143 by Rep. Cole Hefner (R-Mount Pleasant) limits the authority of school districts to regulate the manner in which firearms and ammunition are stored in private motor vehicles parked on school property (including by school employees).

House Bill 1149 by Rep. James White (R-Woodville) ties eligibility for a License To Carry a handgun to the ability to purchase a firearm.

House Bill 1177 by Rep. Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) & Senate Bill 506 by Sen. Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) protect citizens from being charged with a crime for carrying a handgun while evacuating from an area subject to a mandatory order issued during a declared state or local disaster, or while returning home.

House Bill 1231 by Rep. Dan Flynn (R-Van) & Senate Bill 535 by Sen. Donna Campbell (R-New Braunfels) repeals the prohibition on carrying in churches or other places of worship.

Senate Bill 472 by Sen. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola) protects the rights of tenants to lawfully possess firearms in their residential or commercial rental properties and to transport their guns between their personal vehicles and those locations.

I think it would be a good idea to let the legislators who introduced the above bills know how much you support them, and how much you appreciate them standing up for the Second Amendment rights of Texans.

Texas legislators (or legislators in any state) need to be told, and they need to be shown that gun owners and sportsmen are paying attention. Paying attention is how the good guys get elected, and it's how the bad ones get culled.

If you have time to rant and moan about these things on Internet forums, then you have time to write and call your representatives.

Is it necessary that I be a resident of Texas in order to contact politicians regarding their gun control bills? I'm an Ohioan...but I regularly email reps in other states and voice my opinions.

It has every chance of helping and certainly will not hurt. If people out of state care, maybe people in state will be presumed to care more. Thank you!

I am pretty sure governor Abbot would veto these post haste. That said, I do not think they have a chance of making it to his desk (at this time)……

The first thing that the staffers who receive emails, phone calls, or letter do when someone contacts them is check to see if the person is registered to vote.

If your name doesn't appear on the voter rolls, then they will likely ignore your phone call, email, or letter.

As politicians care mostly about getting re elected, they have little to no interest in contact from people who can't vote for (or against) them.

Seems that there is some kind of pattern comparing post #5 and #9. Can't put my finger on it.
