First, my home is about a quarter mile south of the landing path into the San Antonio International Airport, so I see a lot of incoming aircraft coasting in. I was in my back yard this afternoon, and heard an unusually loud noise. I looked up to see a P-51 coming in for a landing. It seemed to be painted with typical military markings. No idea what the occasion was, probably CAF. Not something I see every day, in fact, this is my first sighting of a P-51 that I can remember.

We live near our local airport. One day several years ago I heard a very loud airplane fly over the house, loudest I’d ever heard and it was a B-17. The guys that flew in them in WW2 must have all gone deaf (if they lived long enough).

I can’t find any local news media reports of a P-51 landing at SAT yesterday. I’d think there would have been some mention made somewhere.

Maybe fifteen years ago, I was at a tire store in nearby Ridgeland, Mississippi, standing outside talking to a colleague on my cell phone, and looked up and saw a P-51 overhead, banking and turning, obviously preparing to land at the adjacent Madison airport. As best as I can remember, it was the first time I had actually seen one in flight. I instantly knew what it was.
