This gun is for sale in my neck of the woods.

I don't know anything about this guy/gun, and am not really posting this to help his sale, just for general interest and comment.

I've never seen a porting job like that. Looks like it's blowing a huge amount of gas. Love to see it shoot at night.

There is another ported S&W 10MM on Gunbroker now. It is a 1076, and the seller says it is factory; however, the serial number on the box does not match the serial number on the pistol.

These ports look like the wide funnel, shaped ports... I forget the name of the guy that patented them... maybe worked for NASA. They are not so big an opening in the barrel. Hybra porting now offered by jackweigand / geminicustoms.com.
These were featured in American Handgunner back in Sept of 1999 then offered by Leading Edge Tool.

The slide is cut away to allow the modified barrel with added ports to sit flush...
Certainly takes it out of the realm of a collectable.

If this is like the ported 1076 I saw on one of the auction sites then I bet the warning is no longer present on the pistol either. To me, this tells me the slide was modified, by porting it, and then buffed to have a cleaner finish. There is a very subtle difference between factory finish and buffed finish on these 1076's and other 3rd gen autoloaders.

I prefer a gun that has a little wear on the slide because that tells me it hasn't been buffed out and thus, unoriginal, IMHO.

What a hoot, that is my auction on gun broker right now. I own 3 1076s and I took the picture of the wrong box. I didn't notice it till I read it here and no one has mentioned it to me on Gun broker. Yes it has been buffed out but it was just a few years ago. The port job was performance center , that's why it looks so nice.

Mike, since the 1076 is yours, how does it shoot? I find the porting job quite intriguing. Certainly makes it stand out. Maybe not for all, but bet no one will have one like it at the range :)
