UPDATE at 42 Walmart Optical $10 Extortion - Lenses bought at local optical supplier

You may not like their fee, but it's not extortion. "Your price is lower but I'm outraged so I'll pay more elsewhere."

When they sold them to you for "future use" was there any implication on their part that they would mount lenses for free?

"Extortion is the act of obtaining something through coercion or force. In most jurisdictions, it is considered a criminal offense. Extortion statutes typically require that a threat be made to the victim or their property."

I worked in an industry where occasionally people wanted to supply their own material. Usually it was an attempt to avoid our markup on material. That didn't fly with us. For one, we needed the markup to help cover our costs on those occasions where we screwed up the customer's material. For some reason they expected us to pay for it! Go figure!

There were some fun times when customers asked "Why does it cost me more when I supply the material? That makes no sense." The reason why is because we added the mark-up anyway. Plus we could always buy it cheaper than they could. We did not care if they took it elsewhere because even besides the material cost, logistically it was more difficult when they supplied material.

Here's MY story.

Been going to the same place for 35 years. Local guy and his wife. He also has 2 local Optometrists that share an office and do the exams. A few years ago the Dr, said I had the start of cataracts, and he recommended that in the future I go to an Ophthalmologist and have drops, etc. I could still come back for the glasses. I followed his advice.

Next year I got the new lenses and almost tripped leaving the office. I COULD NOT drive. They verified the lenses were correctly made. Back to the Dr. Wholly Mackeral....it was a bad prescription.

End of story...heck no. Same thing next year.

Both times my optician had the lenses remade at THEIR cost, not mine. These were $300 lenses by the way. Now, THAT's good service.

I pray all works out well for the OP.

If you buy frames AND lenses, the installation is included.

If they have to dismount the old lenses and then install new ones, it's an extra labor charge.

I don't see the problem. Like most tire dealers sell new tires as a package deal. If you bring in your own tires they certainly will charge you to mount them.

You don't need new frames. Just hot glue the new lens to your safety goggles.

I bought glasses through Costco. I was headed out of the country for 3 weeks when my glasses were dropped and stepped on. With 9 days to go before the trip Costco informed me that they still used my frames and would have them here inside of a week. They got things done in 5 days.

Back when many places were shut down due to Covid I managed to break my glasses. Normally not that big of a deal but remember this was in the beginning Covid era. The stores were closed around here for about 10 days and when they opened (for emergency's) only you need a appointment to get threw the locked door.

I tried unsuccessfully a couple times gluing the frame together but settled on using my script sunglasses as everyday ware.

Finely got a appointment, got in the building and lucky for me they had a duplicate frame that still used my lenses. Don't remember the price now but it was decent as I'm a repeat customer. I was only charged for the frame nothing for labor.
