**UPDATE** Model 29-4 - Has A New Home!

I bumped my original thread where there were original questions that I had concerning this revolver. Apparently, it is one milled for scope (and came with specific scope rings) from Smith and Wesson produced in 1988/89. Since it is such, and I've never had a scope on a handgun, I figure why not - it might be pretty neat.

I have a Model 29 that I had a scope mount installed for deer hunting. I have taken several deer with it and do NOT regret, at all, having the work done. This revolver was customized for ME not for some person to buy from my estate:

I can keep most shots at 100 yards on a playing card (using a rest). I have ten thousand full loads through this piece and it is still as tight as the day I got it (when they were nearly unobtainable).

I suspect that the original poster will be a happy camper!

Hello,
I have a 629-3 with the original scope mounts, I really like mine, doubt if you'll be disappointed.

I have that gun, I think S&W may have referred to it as a "Hunter" model. I shot a deer with it, cleaned it and put it away and never shot it again. I was recently offered $750 for it on a trade, which I passed on. I'll just keep it and figure out what I want to do with it at some point. Three options are to keep it as is, trade it or possibly shorten it to a 3", that's something I've always wanted anyway. For now it's still an 8 3/8" barreled revolver sitting in the safe.
Do you still have the rings?

I just created a WTB post for the rings, so if anyone knows anybody that has a set that they would be willing to sell me, please direct them to that thread or to PM me...thanks everyone!

Matt;
If you cannot find the rings, you might take a look at Post #22. I had this done in a precision machine shop locally (actually, had mine and two of my friends revolvers done at the same time). in fact, I even furnished the drill bits, taps, and screws for the installation. I'll be happy to discuss the details by PM if you become interested. I believe that it is a superior way to mount a scope compared to having the top strap drilled. I MUCH prefer the scope being mounted between the sights. S&W must agree with my assessment hence the method on the my nearly new Model 629 Light Hunter:

Just a thought...

Thanks, Dale. It's a good option, for sure...thanks! Right now, I'm enjoying it!

One of these things is not like the other...

The revolver is amazing. I need to learn how to reload. :p

Matt;
I cannot imagine shooting handguns without reloading. I started reloading and casting bullets when I was 14 years of age and had little income. I have never stopped and just the other day cast 20# of 9mm 124 gr TC bullets.

While everyone else was complaining about no ammo and sitting at home, i was happily casting and reloading for all of my handguns. I never missed a day...

Try it, you'll LOVE it!
