Update Model 66-2

Just an update of my model 66-2. I've had it for a year now. I bought it used and I shot close 500+ rounds so far, a mix of 38spl and 357 mag, various brands. Had a few problems but it's a great shooter.

Great looking gun; I like those grips. What kind of problems have you had with it?

Cylinder would bind up after shooting it a lot. 200 or so magnums and The action would be too tight. I could not cock the hammer back. I did not clean it between range sessions at first and I think that was the reason for malfunctions. The barrel is canted slightly. Lately its a great shooter if I clean it well.

Mine loves my 38 reloads; it's a lot less punishing on the gun

Isn't that the gas ring/yoke issue that caused a lot of problems back in the 70s? I believe they changed the location of the gas ring, and that resulted in one of the dash changes to the nominclature? Perhaps yours is the older style;. I don't recall which dash signifies that change.

I'm not sure if it had the yoke issue. My 66-2 was built in the late 80s and even then it was recommended to shoot mostly 38 out of the K-Frame and use 357 for defense/duty. When I joined the forum and mentioned my issues with the revolver, many members suggested I take measurements at certain areas of the gun and all were with-in specification. I just clean it really well after I shoot and it's great.

I've got a 66-1. Like others, I shoot only 38s so as not to punish the frame or cause endshake.

A very accurate shooter with 38s...
