UPDATE on Sigma vs M&P

Well, I went to my dealer for a fix today. I posed the question regarding Sigma Vs M&P and while I only got a few responses, most all were about the M&P with various backstraps and comfort in hand. My Sigma ownership was some time back and I have tried the M&P FS and Compacts in both 9 & 40. I was thinking that given the current prices, I could get 2 Sigmas for almost the price of the M&P and I would have two guns, not one.

Just to be sure, I tried both a FS M&P and a SW40VE today, and no matter which backstrap I tried, the Sigma felt much better in the hand.

So, when I left today, I was the proud owner of 2 SW40VE's, 2 extra mags and 200 rounds of Federal 180 grain ammo, all for $750, out the door. Guns are recent production, one being test fired 3/26/09 & the other on 4/9/09

Took both to the range and went through 25 rounds for each gun...every shot was centered on target, I was shooting a little low due to not being used to heavy trigger, but still a small and deadly group for unfortunate bad guy. And my trigger control will get better with dry firing sessions. All in all, not a single regret. For some reason, the grip on the Sigma is a very ergonomic fit for my hand. Much more so than the MP...or any other plastic wonder gun...

I have often wished I could have a Sigma with the Glock 34 trigger. Not going to happen.

Nothing quite fits my hand like a Sigma, and the magazines changes just work better for me than any other service semi-auto.

I completely understand what both of you are saying. There just aren't too many pistols that come close to being as comfortable in my hands as the Sigma is, regardless of price range.

And OKFC05, I agree. If I could get the Sigma with even the M&P trigger, I would be a happy camper.

My 40VE is still my HD gun. It does fit my hand darn well. You can get 15+1 (old F mags) for your 40s and they work great. Check out CDNN investments.

My MP40c is my primary carry gun because it is smaller and still fits my hand. Plus side it has a better trigger.

The Mp40 is a great gun. I shot one all day as a rental before buying a used 40VE. Couldn't pay the freight, but not unhappy at all with the 40VE.

I have a sigma 9ve with a trigger job and a M&P .40

The sigma is not a bad gun but I will be selling it soon so I can get a M&P 9. I really like the M&P guns with a crimsontrace laser grip they are a really nice guns. My only decision will be the standard 9 or the 9c.

I was thinking about the Sig 226 but after I saw what they were doing with the mags I decided to get another S&W. Besides my postive experience with the warranty service is what has sold me. I think some companies have no idea how valueable a good warranty service is.

I have 2 Sigmas, the 9 VE and the 40 VE. Both guns are excellent shooters and handle lead bullets accurately, which is a plus, especially in these LEAN component times we are having.My 2 guns were $625.00 less the price of 2 mags on the rebate for the 9mm, $82.00 worth of magazines. So, $540.00 for both guns. Not a bad deal. I really like the M&P, but being a revolver shooter for 40 years, I can handle these 2 DAO autos very nicely, and at any distance to 50 yrds. The Sigma as been really bashed over the years and that is too bad, because, now, most folks are finding out, that it is really a decent weapon. The M&P is a great weapon and I may buy one in the future, but right now, I am having a great time with the 2 Sigmas.

I would buy two more Sigmas before I would get an M&P. Sigma grip feels better to me.

i will have to stay on the side of the sigma i own a sigma 9v (ya the older one) and i love it it feels alot better in the hand than the m&p but since i havent fired a m&p i really can only go on the feel alone ive put at least 700 rounds through it since i bought it used in march and i have only had one misfire but that was due to the ammo (bad primer) the only complaint i have about it is the trigger but i plan on getting a trigger job done soon combine a sigma with a taurus 24/7 trigger system and it would be perfect

#1 reason a Sigma is better than a Glock.... It will eat cast lead and not go Ka-Boom on you.

Fortunate enough here to have a friend with a 9VE and M&P 45. Both have worked nearly flawlessly, he had a 2 stovepipes in the first couple hundred rounds with the Sigma, but nothing since. Have to say that I much prefer the trigger pull on the M&P over the Sigma, like most everyone else has commented, as I thought the Sigma's trigger was far too long. But for the price it is hard to dismiss the Sigma for a M&P. Was amazed at the easy recoil on the M&P 45 though, for a polymer gun it does absorb the punch really well.

Is there a better gun comfort wise than the Sigma? I don't think so.
Once the trigger lightens up after about 500 rounds, it's one of the top pistols out there.
I can't think of another pistol that is as lightweight, Hi capacity, superb grip, dependable, corrosion resistant, excellent warranty.

Glock Smock, the Sigma 9VE blows it away.
The gun has everything I am looking for at any price. At $300 it's a gun steal.
Let people keep thinking Sigma's are garbage and let them keep buying the more expensive M&P. More for me.

Don't know if I would use the words "blows away", but for me, it's the grip angle that makes the Sigma superior in my hands to the Glock. The Glock is just slightly awkward for me. Forces me to bend my wrist in an unnatural position to achieve a proper sight picture.

As far as the trigger is concerned, there is really no comparison. I'd love to have the standard Glock trigger transplanted into my Sigma's.

Well DUH a Block sorry glock sells for a heck of a lot more $$$$$$ it better arse be a bit better. Not in my experience though.

Glock compacts are smaller than the sigma.

I LIKE the way the Sigma feels, but the Glock seems to leave the house with me.

The sigma has been handled at the store 20x probably but side by side, the Glock is smaller, the magazines 10 rounders that I am limited to are not as good as 10 round glock magazines.

I LIKE the Allied forced 40ve but can't seem to get by how well the glock works for me.

I always believed that the reason Sigmas were "shown no respect" compared to Glocks, was the trigger and lack of aftermarket accessories.

I've probably had 10, but never kept one. I used a few for "drawer" guns, (load and put in drawer in different parts of the house) but just didn't care for them.

I found the Glock felt better and I could shoot it better at longer distances. At 21 feet +/-, of course, there was little difference, but at 25 yards, there was a world of difference for me.

YMMV, of course.
