A couple of months ago, or so a fellow forum member posted a photo of a Model 15-3 with Target Hammer, Target Trigger, and Target Stocks. I liked the way it looked, so I decided to update one of my currently owned Model 15's to duplicate the look.

I had already installed a set of Target Stocks on it, so all I had to change was the hammer and trigger. Here's a couple of photos prior to the update:

And here's the results with the 3-T's, Target Hammer, Target Trigger, and Target Stocks. :)

Nice job, and gun! Never had a 15 myself. Keep waiting on a 2". (no luck) Do have a 67 no dash which is as close as I can come. Enjoy your 15! Bob

I could go take a picture of my Model 15-3 2", if that would help. :D

Seriously, keep looking; one will turn up for you eventually. They are cool little revolvers!!! :)

Recently there was a dandy 2" in the " Want to sell forum"

The bottom two pieces are 15-3's. The 2" shows no evidence of having been fired outside the factory

My 4" Model 15 was an issued weapon but never looked as good as any of these. As a working gun it got wiped down w/a silicone cloth after each shift, and I waxed the finish to retard rust. Best service size .38 ever made.

S&W Model 15.... DOB September 1960

This is one I found in Montana last June.... it was wearing Pachmayr grips at the time... I added some target grips, but not sure if they're period correct... sure is a nice shooter though...

OP, I was wondering what kind of fitting and tuning did you have to do when you swapped a hammer and trigger?

I had to swap the original Double Action Sear onto the new Target Hammer, and since I could not get the screw to budge on the Trigger Stop to make the necessary adjustments, (the Target Trigger required more clearance) I ended up having to file a little off of the Trigger Stop where it protrudes out into the trigger housing. Not necessary, but done at the same time, I went ahead and put a Wolff 14# Rebound Spring in to replace the stock Rebound Spring. The Main Spring remains stock.

By the way, it appeared to me that no one had ever been inside this gun since it left the factory.

Thanks for your inquiry Narragansett.

If the gun dates to 1960, those would not be correct. The speed loader relief didn't show up on K target stocks until about 1978 (give or take a little).

In 1960, target stocks only had the football shaped extractor relief.

But, hey, they look fine and if they allow you to shoot your Combat Masterpiece well, then who cares if they are too new?
