updating concealed carry wardrobe

Yeah I think I have found a casual gun belt that should work keep my pants up as well as keep my holster were it needs to be.... 5.11 makes it. It looks like my everyday casual belt but is sturdy as hell. Would have gotten it yesterday but they didn't have my size so gonna order online today unless I find something better.

I think that the Uncle Mike belt also says "GUN" to anyone looking. Many good gun belts look just like regular dress belts, including the buckle but are just thicker and stiffer (usually double layered leather). A good gun belt should just look like a belt, period.

I agree in principle but since I wear my shirts untucked when not at work no one sees my belt anyway.

Depending on the type of gun belt you are buying I strongly urge you to follow their sizing instructions to a "T". If any thing get an inch or two bigger than you think you'll need.

Certain "tactical" items are actually part of everyday style...at least out here. Camo pants, web belts, oversized clothes and even combat boots are the order of the day for many women in the Gay community.

And I doubt most people think they are packing.

Hey...those cargo shorts on the woman in the front might have a j-frame in the pocket....:)

Did you see the thread on Hawaiian Shirts? It seems that a lot of members are wearing them for comfort and to conceal.

The shirt I have on right now is a button down, short sleeved shirt, long enough to cover my OWB holster even if I raise my arm. It is slightly larger than what I used to wear before CC'ing. I paid $15 for it at Walmart. No one would ever know that I'm carrying and I've never been outed - not even from my family. As many have already posted, I can buy two of these for the cost of one "tactical" shirt...and I don't have that "look" that screams "I'm carrying a gun." Also, I found casual/dress pants by Wrangler that have a slightly stretchy waist...I can wear them with either my IWB or OWB rigs. Another Walmart purchase for under $20. With a little ingenuity and careful shopping you can have a CC friendly wardrobe without spending a fortune. Just my 2-cents worth.

Save your money. There are better belts. They may feel stiff when new, but without support in the middle, they all sag within a few months of carrying.

This would be better: Aker International, Inc.

I think a lot of folks here have a logophobia, fear of words. Just because something has "tactical" in the name, y'all think it will make you a target. The term "tactical" is overused these days. It is a marketing ploy. Even so, just because something is called tactical doesn't mean it's bad.

I actually like Hawaiian shirts for concealment. The wild patterns help to break up any printing of your gun and make it less obvious. The issue for me is that most aren't cut long enough. I have a few, but only use them when carrying IWB, which I usually don't do.

Thanks rastoff. ...I was reading reviews on the 5.11 belt and everybody said same thing...they loved the belt but that after a few months they weren't any good.

Dressing around your gun is really not difficult. I have been carrying for almost 29 years. Right now I have a 2 1/2" M66-1 in an OWB holster, perfectly covered by a sweatshirt. I have a M340PD in a pocket holster in my left jeans pocket. Have 2 6 round Bianchi Speed Strips in my right front pants pocket. This is totally comfortable, and completely concealed.
All of my clothing could be purchased at Wal-Mart.

Not too sure about that, My wilderness tactical five stitch is a little over a year old and doing just fine

It's not complicated. You don't need gimmick clothes. If you carry IWB, wear pants an inch or two bigger in the waist. If you ankle carry, get boot cut jeans. If you OWB, get your shirts a little larger. I have never bought "gun clothes" and don't know anyone who ever did.

Has anyone tried Sneaky Pete holsters? They take an interesting approach, and I wonder how well they work.

While the SP pouch works well with smaller caliber (cell phone size) pistols, it's rather awkward for larger (PF-9, LC9, P938, Shield and larger) pistols.

Yeah... one could disguise it by throwing an Apple Logo on it, but then one would then run the risk of getting their iPad lifted. ;) :D

I don't know, I would recommend a belt, but they'll jump on me and say "it's tactical and scary!!!" I'll post it anyway.

I like this one: Uncle Mike's - The Leader in Shooting Accessories

Search a little and it can be found for about $35. It's nice because it has a polymer insert between the layers. This makes it super stiff and holds the gun up well.

I wear a Wilderness Instructor belt which is very similar to the above. I really like it, best belt I've had in a long time and is inexpensive. I've always worn my shirts untucked so no one ever sees it. If you see my belt and it screams gun to you well, I'm probably in the middle of lifting my shirt to draw so in a few moments more than the belt will be screaming GUN.

I've got to put in a good word for the Wilderness 5 Stitch too. I've worn mine exclusively for over 5 years with nothing but good results. The Velcro can get a bit worn, but it still holds. There is a replacement program from the company for the Velcro, but I've never used it. But, the belt is completely concealed by my covering garment. If it were not completely covered... I might wear a more conventional looking leather belt.

My 2 cents,
Elsworth

The world needs a smaller than J-frame 32acp revolver !

Just an old guy speaking out. Spend the money on a good belt. Milt Sparks make one, and I have been wearing it for 30 years. It was a good investment, and their new ones are better. I am sort of a low speed low drag kind of person. I don't own a pair of dress pants. I go through the warmer months wearing Carhartt "T" shirts, and the cooler months in Henleys with the tails out. I do have a light and heavy dress coat. When I have to wear a sweep back type covering garment, I go back to the old FBI method. I don't sew lead weights into the coat, but I carry my key ring in the gun hand pocket I carry a full size 1911, or a Ruger 3" .357 SP-101.

Before I began carrying, I wore size Medium shirts. Since I began carrying OWB about 10 years ago, I wear size Large shirts. No problem with coverage.

I don't shop much, but while in a department store a few years ago, I came across a 1.5" wide casual Dockers belt that was extremely stiff. I'm still using it today. I later bought a second of the same belt for if and when this one ever wears out.

A good gun belt by a quality craftsman is a great investment. There are several good manufacturers out there. Most of them look like a quality dress belt and don't appear "tactical".
