Upgrading parts on my MP-15T

Just thought I'd pass along my experiences upgrading various pieces of my MP-15T. First, let me say that I'm a relative newb and only have this one AR-15 rifle which I bought new about a year ago, so my experience is only applicable to that one rifle. But, I have put almost 2000 rounds downrange.

First change I made was to replace the grip with a Magpul MOE+. I never liked the stock grip with finger ridges, so this definitely suited my hand better and the rubberized surface is nice.

Next, I replaced the A2 flash higher with a BCM Gunfighter Mod 0. Seemed to tame the recoil a bit and reduce muzzle rise or sideways movement.

Next, I put in a Rubber City Armory nitrided FA BGC. I can't say the rifle performed any better, but it's definitely easier to clean than the stock parkerized BCG. Case ejection also moved closer to the 3 o'clock position.

Next, I put in a Spikes ST-T2 buffer. Made the rifle seem to run a bit smoother. Improved the case ejection even more.

Then, I put in a BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 charging handle. The charging action feels a lot more solid and smooth. It was hard to imagine the degree of improvement before trying it.

Next, replaced the stock with a Magpul ACS-L. The original stock always had a small bit of wiggle. The Magpul is solid with a much improved check weld.

Finally, I put in a Sprinco blue spring. I don't know if it's just the spring, or the combination of all the upgraded parts, but the rifle shoots very smooth now with greatly reduced recoil and muzzle movement. Just feels solid. Doesn't make the annoying "sproing" sound. Shoots .233 or 556x45 with no problems.

Well, that's it for now. I can't think of what else I can upgrade. The rifle has always been more than accurate enough for me using a Burris AR-332 3x red dot. Using a bipod at 100 yds, I can put all the rounds in a 3-4 inch diameter circle. The only difference I've noted between PPU 223 69 gr, Black Hills OTM MK262 77 gr match grade ammo, PMC XP193/M855, Fiocchi .223 and Federal XM193 is slightly tighter groups with the match grade ammo. Not much difference between .223 and 556x45. YMMV.

I saw a poster once that said the AR-15 is like Barbie for men. So true. Hope this is useful for someone.

LOL. I've said that a few times. There's always something ...

Free float key-mod hand rails

KNS Precision Anti-Walk trigger pins

Troy folding battle sights

A new trigger: Geisele, Timney, RRA 2-Stage, etc...

An AR-Restor hydraulic buffer.

Nickel Boron coated BCG.

BAD lever.

Single point QD sling attachment point.

Optics: magnified, red dot, etc

Cerakote any color you want.

Thanks for the input. I forgot to mention I put in a Geissele G2S trigger already so I can't use the KNS pins.

Already have a red dot (Burris AR 332). Have a RCA BCG, so I don't think I need a NiB one.

Not really interested in cerakote or a sling. I only plan to shoot at the range for fun so the BUIs are not interesting to me. In fact, I took off the ones that came with the rifle. Not anticipating zombies. Have HK pistols for home defense.

I'll have to research the hydraulic buffer, but I don't feel the need with the Sprinco spring and H buffer. It's working and feeling pretty good.

BAD lever. Maybe, but since I don't plan to take shooting courses or compete, it's probably not that useful for me.

Now, the keymod hand rail idea IS interesting. Might lighten the rifle a bit. But, it seems accessories are not readily available at this point so I'll probably wait a bit. I had been considering a Noveske Recon upper with NSR, but I think I've decided not to for now. Maybe when I shoot out this barrel. :D

M&Ps have a slightly larger gas port than milspec gas ports. A heavier buffer with a Sprinco Blue Spring is an awesome upgrade to make it softer shooting. M&Ps are slightly overgassed.

Good Job

Upgrades

I'm headed down a very similar road with my 15OR. Difference is this is my SHTF/carry in my truck AR. Spikes S2-T2 buffer w/blue spring, MOE+ hand grip, BCM flash hider and charging handle. NiB BCG and Geissele trigger group will be next. Just haven't decided on the optics. Probably some sort of scope with a LaRue mount. Ed B
