Won a Ebay auction from a pawn shop in Chicago last week. Never really expected to be able to afford a Fender badged Telecaster, but this made in Mexico limited edition Player example from May 2020 was just what I was hoping for. Neglected but not abused, the first thing I did when I unboxed it was remove the rusted strings. The frets are tarnished quite badly but a good polishing should bring those back to life. The neck is in perfect shape. Not a dent or scratch to be found on it. The body is almost perfect with two small dings and a couple small scratches. A good cleanup will be all I will do to it. There is some freckling on the bridge and saddles. I will see how they respond to a good clean and polish. I have some vintage style intonating brass barrel Telecaster saddles that I might install. Thought I was going to use them on my 1970's Japanese Tele copy, but the original saddles and bridge cleaned up better than expected on that one. The electronics all work as they should, and I am looking forward to seeing what all they used underneath the pickguard and control plate. There is pick wear on the pickguard, but since it still has the protective plastic coating on it things should be pristine under that when I remove it. Guessing that someone bought the guitar, played it some and then stored it somewhere with a lot of humidity before pawning it. Sorry to see it like this but definitely my gain. I paid $425 for it plus shipping and taxes. Still chaps my hide that we have to pay taxes on the shipping as well as the guitar. Oh well, this one will make a nice counterpoint hanging next to the Japanese Telecaster when it is all cleaned up.

Very nice, I like it.

This is one of my guitars. A 1994 Mexican Telecaster signed by the original members of Collective Soul in 1995. Ed and Dean Roland have seen photos and verified it's authenticity.
I have something similar. It was actually the first guitar I bought. A Squier Affinity Strat signed by Buddy Guy in 2022.

I assembled a fancier guitar from Warmoth parts and bought a Heritage 535 but the Mexican Strat I first bought in 2001 is still here and still played the most. Those ceramic pickups had to go though…
Everything I have read about these modern MIM guitars says the pickups in these Tele's are quite nice. Fender calls them 'Player Series Alnico 5 Tele® Single-Coil'. I am planning on going by a local amp tech's place with my Squier Mustang project guitar and this Fender after I finish working on it. He plays in a band on the side and will test them out for me. I had him try my '70s Japanese Tele on my cheap Crate VC508 test amp and he produced some nice ZZ Top sounds out of it. Looking forward to hearing how the other two sound.
