UPS rant

Went to ship out som guns today, normally I go early in the morning but lately I have been working 1st shift so I went at 3:30. I got everything processed and the the guy behind the counter wanted to see the FFLs so I showed them to him, then he wanted copies.

I told him they were hand guns and needed to go next day air, he said I was correct but wanted to know what kind of handguns they were and again said you are selling them to a dealer right. I said I was shipping them to a dealer as is required and that he had just seen and copied the FFLs.

He got a bit authoritarian and said you can only sell them to dealers I asked to see the manager and he got huffy I explained to the manager that I never run into this in the morning and did any new regulations go into effect and he said no. The manager then asked if I was shipping ammunition with the guns and I said no that would be illegal. after 45 minutes of playing this goat rope I got out of there.

Normally I go in the morning and never have a problem I deal with the same guy and it goes smooth.

We have one person who always throws road blocks anytime we ship any Firearms, after many talks with the Mgr. I started to ship with the afternoon people and have no trouble with the shipping. Contacted the Main office and they said they would look into it. ( A year ago ) Still no change in the AM person.

One of the benefits of a C&R is that it allows you to ship via the USPS. YOu have to fill out a Form 1058, but that takes about one minute. I take a copy of my license, a copy of the receiver's FFL, the 1058 and no problem. They ship it priority mail insured. I sent a handgun out on 4/18 (tax day) at 3:30 pm. The clerk said the usual is their anything flammable, explosive, etc. I said 'no, just a firearm'...he about fell over...lol. Then I showed him the paperwork and he was impressed. A couple days later, saw him again and he asked if my firearm got there. I said yes sir.

According to USPS regs only dealer FFLs(which a C&R is not of course) can ship handguns. If they do accept one by mistake I do not know what happens if it hits the fan. I would not chance it myself.

I was told it was ok, but that was by a dealer. Thanks for the clarification.

This is how I understand it as well. The USPS reg's state specifically "Dealer". A C&R is a collector's license, prohibited from "dealing".
Better safe than violating Federal Laws...
