I am told that there is a chance for an Illinois concealed carry bill to actually get passed this year from a really good source. A really, REALLY good source.

I am starting to visit every single forum that I am subscribed to and not just the firearm forums, every forum and trying to enlist people to first; log on and join Illinois Carry - A Website Dedicated To Advancing Conceal Carry For Illinois and second; join the ISRA and NRA and third, get vocal by calling their State reps and Senators, call radio programs and send Letters to the Editors of every paper in Illinois and fourth, attend IGOLD and get as many people as they know to attend IGOLD. To further that, I am including IGOLD (Illinois GunOwners Lobby Day in Springfield on March 10)posters and an invitations to print them out and post them..

It is not hard to get a political buzz started because of the Internet. It is entirely possible to start a contagious positive buzz started if it breaks out in numerous websites and very definitely not just those directed at firearms. For instance, I have a Jeep Wrangler and belong to four different Jeep forums. I have a travel trailer and belong to two different RV websites.

I am also asking anyone that reads my posts on all of these forums to do the same thing. Go to any forums they belong to and urge folks to do any or all four of the four things I have listed.

Illinois Carry has over 2000 members. By March 10, we can get that to 4,000 or more members.

Todd Vandermyde, the NRA Illinois Lobbyist, is in Springfield fighting for us and he needs to start hearing State Reps and Senators telling him that their office phones are starting to ring off the hook from pro-RTC voters.

Don't wait, do this now. It is time to "gather the clans" because this could happen this very Spring.

This was on our local news tonight-my fingers are crossed and I'll be doing everything I can,

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) --Conceal and carry...it's back on the front burner tonight. Illinois and Wisconsin are the only two states not to allow concealed gun permits. But, a hearing at the state capitol today examined a proposal to change that.

Lawmakers are looking at allowing county sheriffs to issue permits to people who have firearm owner's identification cards.

It's a controversial issue. Some say that citizens have the right to bear arms, while others say concealed and carry laws would lead to a dangerous situation.

Duane Long is a firearms instructor and owner of personal protection services, a firearms training company.

Long says a conceal and carry law would reduce crime because criminals would be less likely to engage in violence if their victims may be armed and able to defend themselves.

He says self-defense is what conceal and carry is all about.

"Its the opportunity if you will, or the choice if you will that if violence would come to them, that they have the ability to defend themselves and their families or even a third party," said Long.

But opponents of conceal and carry say more guns on the street is not the answer.

Members of the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence say conceal and carry laws go beyond the scope of personal protection and encourage people to use their guns to kill.

"What we're talking about is a wild wild west mentality where people in situations where they feel uncomfortable will just draw a gun and shoot first and ask questions later and that's just going to lead to an increase in violent crime," said Mark Walsh, campaign manager for the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

A long-running debate, picking up steam once again in Springfield.

Under one bill in front of the General Assembly, rigorous background checks and gun safety classes would be required before a permit is issued.

Still no word on when or if that House Bill will be called for a vote.

Lets not get too excited. As much as I'd love to see CCW in Illinois there's really no reason to believe it will happen now.

Seems no doubt the Gov. would veto any such bill and I doubt there's enough Repubs or Dem support to over-ride that.

get the word out NOW..................a list of representatives and senators..............

a sample message................

"Please initiate and/or support legislation
that DEEMPHASIZES gun control and
PROMOTES concealed or open carry
of hand guns in Illinois.

Hand gun bans and gun controls have
not been an effective deterrent to crime.
The only persons controlled by these
laws are the law abiding citizens.

Gang bangers and criminals obtain and
use firearms illegally on a daily basis.

Please allow the honest people to defend
themselves against attackers and place
the residents of Illinois on an equal level
with the other States that allow their
citizens to own and carry handguns.

Thank you for your consideration."

I was going to post the same thing when I found BudMan5 has beat me to it. Our people in the know are saying the votes are there to pass and override the expected veto. This is not the year to say we can't! Jim.

If I read my morning paper correctly, The bill failed again. Beaten down by the Chicago machine.

I need to move. Someone clearly did not get paid off with a thick enough envelope. The corruption and the taxes in this state is and will be it's downfall. The recent state tax increase to pay off the $8 billion dollar debt...the TEMPORARY tax increase....went to the nightmare pension problem and Medicaid. They did not even touch the deficit with it.

I have no idea why Illinois thinks it is so special with the 2nd Amendment issue. We have some of the worst crime in the country and their current gun laws obviously are not working. Let the people defend themselves...the criminals will think twice if the public is armed.

A recent homicide in Illinois: the killer's search history on his computer showed "Illinois Death Penalty"...which he learned was just abolished...he had no incentive to stop him.

Illinois Gun Owners

You can't change stupid, but you can vote it out. I wish the gun owners in Illinois good luck in any progress they can make against overkill gun laws.

I know I'm the new guy here, but I grew up in IL before I left for the military,so Ill just mention that policy change in IL is not made at the polls, but with either breifcases of cash or federal indictments.Sometimes both.

Want concealed carry in IL?Your options are;
Bribe the governor AND the legislature.Cash or check only please.
Join the FBI Federal Corruption Task Force and lock up the governor and the legislature.Hope you like suits and public speaking.
Run for office yourself..and bribe the sitting governor and the legislature.Don't bring your Visa card.

I have said it before and I will say it again, Blame the residents of a restricted gun rights area. They pay taxes, they vote, they spend money in the area.

If I do not like the laws or the attitude of the area, I will move and I have done so. My hobby is collecting guns and I am not going to give up my life long hobby because of the laws or feelings of politicians that want what they want and not what the people want. I left a city many years ago when the government officials began being catering to certain individuals and then appointed a series of anti gun police chiefs. Ironically, the first in the line of chiefs was from and now lives back in Chicago. He is very anti gun and more or less said if someone was found carrying, then arrest them for something. I sold my home at a loss and moved miles away.

I am sure this has been mentioned here before but compare Morton Grove IL to Kennesaw GA. Morton Grove put anti gun laws on the books and Kennesaw put pro gun laws on the books. Morton Grove lost population, tax base, revenue and saw an increase in crime. Kennesaw saw a large increase in population, a lower crime rate and an increase in tourism.

I recommend you follow what's going on, contact your representatives and recommend they vote in favor, be polite. Make positive remarks whenever you are discussing CCW, with anyone. Take a neighbor to the range and educate them. Very few states passed CCW laws on the first ore many even on the 2nd try. Governor Quinn has stated he will veto any CCW bill that hits his desk, so it won't come up for a vote again until there are enough votes to override his veto. (Also reading the Quincy Herald Whig).
