US Army Model 10 commemerative

I put a plug in for a similar idea in the air force thread- one for each of the services perhaps?

That's what motivated me to start this thread, I saw your USAF Model 15 idea, I figured well, the Army used Model 10's for decades, so why not a US Army Model 10.....I don't know what model would work for the Marines or Navy.......maybe more Model 10's to represent the Victory models?

in fact to bring it out at a reasonable price give it a flat blasted parkerized finish and plain grips- perhaps akin to the colt ww2 repro but at about half the price? I can't see buying the repro if originals are in the same prcie range

I like that idea, give it an "economy" finish and also more like the originals.....parkerizing would look good, with plain woods on it.....

or make it bead blast blue like a Model 28 or early Victory, and use non-checkered wood grips in the pre-Magna style, like they are doing with the N-Frame Classics.

Maybe turn out some tapered 4" barrels, like they did with the 10-9's, it would actually be a good looking gun, a modern "tribute" to the WWII-Vietnam era S&W's, and make one for each branch since everyone used Victory and Model 10 revolvers from WWII and in some cases up until the 90's.

I like the Air Force Model 15, too, I was in the Army and I would still buy one:)

When I started the thread on the USAF Model 15 commemorative, I also suggested later that models be offered for the Army, Navy and Marines.
The Smith & Wesson K-frame .38 Special was used by every service up through the early 1980s.
Dog handlers used it because it was quickly brought into action while holding a dog's leash. The military's requirement to carry the 1911 with an empty chamber made it cumbersome for dog handlers, since it requires two hands to cycle a round in the chamber.
The K-frame .38 Special was good to go, one handed. Navy and Marine aviators also carried the .38 Special at times.

I suggested that the seal of service be engraved in the frame, and the models be blued. I also suggested specialized serial numbers with a prefix: F for Air Force, N for Navy, A for Army and M for Marine Corps. A fifth model could be marketed for those in the Coast Guard who carried them, with a G prefix to the serial number (C is already long-taken for commercial models).

In September I sent my second letter to Smith & Wesson, suggesting commemorative models. My first letter a year ago was never answered. Nor has this most recent letter.
Next, I'll try calling Smith & Wesson and get a specific name to whom to send a letter of suggestion.
Perhaps you folks can do the same.

Sometime in the 90s we turned in our two ea blued M10 2" RB for SIG M11s. These were issued to the CID agents in our Battalion.
