USA Train Wreck

Ah, but then if you just slightly extend your thinking, you will understand that the concept of unions is an attitude of entitlement, and getting something without earning it. And THAT comes from the idea that an individual can do as he damn well pleases without consequence, but an ORGANIZED group of individuals with the same mindset can coerce business owners and management to get what they are "entitled" to. All without consequences or punishment for bad behavior.

I have to admit that in studying the history of industrial growth in America, that at one time labor unions provided much needed changes in worker safety and compensation for injuries or incapacitation. Well, that period has passed, and the dinosaur unions that have grown to dominate and control and dictate to businesses what they want have become a major force in tearing down America's industrial might. A look at the recent events in the auto industry should be enough to convince us that stranglehold the labor unions have hamstrung european industrial capability have done the same us in North America.

1. rampant consumerism coupled with planned obsolescence. The drive to buy buy buy really took off after WWII and companies decided profit is more important than quality.

2. children out of wedlock. attacks the very fabric of our society and the family unit.

3. handouts. nothing has to be earned any more. you get trophies for losing just as you do for winning. you can't even grade papers in red ink because it hurts feelings.

Kids need boundaries and they actually like boundaries. When my brother & I got out of line, my dad occasionally gave us a whack to remind us who was the authority---not often, as we usually knew what not to do and when we strayed too far, just the tone of his voice was enough. I never held any anger towards my dad for that---on the contrary, it taught us manners that enabled us to be welcome guests at people's homes, on field trips, camping trips, going out to dinner---lots of fun stuff that we would not get to do if we had no self control. We learned that there was no good reason to act up, as no one would want us around. Later this training enabled us to get good jobs working with people who also had manners. You don't spank, or paddle a kid because you want to hurt them, you do it because you love 'em and care about 'em. To not discipline them can and does ruin their future happiness. Just see why so many teachers are quitting these days---the tail is now wagging the dog.

I thought of a couple more that haven't been mentioned.

The use of the word "I" instead of "we" and the death of common sense. Why do they call it "common"?

The public school education code has a provision called "en loc parentis" meaning that a classroom teacher has the lawful right to act on behalf of the absent parent. Well, much of that got thrown out the window when liberal social engineering type school officials decided to ban corporal punishment. I vividly recall a local school board president declaring at a press TV news session that, "We will put a stop to the child BEATING!". Well, the polite way to describe the chaos commonly found in elementary and middle school classrooms is that the tail has been allowed to wag the dog for over a generation now since the banning of corporal punishment in schools.

1. Roe vs Wade. I like to cite Maggie Gallagher who noted the widespread and growing belief among younger men that the duty of rasing and supporting children belongs solely to the mother. Roe's effect on our national psyche has been best summed up by the late Professor Elizabeth Fox-Genoves who said:
"By declaring reproductice freedom to be women's exclusive right, it dismisses the claims of men and cancels their obligation to the next generation."
2. The disintegration of family life.
Regarding the banning of corporal punishment in the schools, many teachers and school officials say they have their hands full trying to correct the damage caused by abusive parents. Subjecting a child who is always being beaten and kicked about at home to further physical punishment at school is throwing fat on the fire.

I see we are back on track.

The dumbing down of our educational system. Turning out students who can not properly read, write or understand the English language.

On the other hand we have allowed immigrant populations to function in their own lanquages and not assimilate into our culture. The government and corporations simply provide them with ballots, forms and items labeled in many languages. This makes us a country of many cultures that are not bound together by a common language. How do you feel when you call and have to press one for English? Bruce

I know a lot of people point to lack or role models, but I truly believe that our sports stars, movie stars, politicians, military heroes and so forth were no better back then, they simply where strewn on every paper, website, blog and talk radio show. we know indiscretions the second they happen. I guess this is part of a bigger problem of people thinking they are allowed to know everything about another person's business while at the same time thinking they are so interesting, everyone should know about them (facebook, twitter, myspace etc.). Not all opinions are valid or valued.

If you think doing violence to our kids is part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Did you know that the only citizens in our country that can legally be beaten are our children?

Personally, I think that educators and others who are supportive of paddling kids get a sexual thrill out of it.

Disgusting.

There are many reasons why our young have behavioral problems-- but not being hit ain't one of them.

Remember when President Lyndon Johnson promised the Great Society? He really started the Great Welfare Society. Bruce

How about politicians who seem to get elected for life? Professional politicians. We have no one to blame but ourselves.

Try as they might Merril, they can't seem to convince people that just because you have some moral and religious convictions you're not the equivilent of the Taliban in Afghanistan or Amininutjob in Iran or some towel head that sends his kids out to explode.

Some just can't seem to get that it's freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.

Well, they've taken great steps to ostracize anyone with any Christian beliefs in government but you can worship to mother earth and they're OK with that. The house won't stand when the foundation is rotten and they're doing everything they can to chip away at the only real rock in that foundation.

Its just that I cant figure out what fanatical christians there are in goverment. I know of none, but many of the opposite. A few years ago some might have said gary bowers, not me though!
Huckabee was a one time evangilist, never saw him act like a fanatic. Then of course Sarah Paulin belonged to the Assemblies of God church. Guess that makes me one too as I am a fan of the same church! I would like to be enlightend here as to paladins post as I know of none. ZERO! Maybe I should get out more.
