Gentlemen:

A good friend of mine and fellow S&WCA member is seeking to have the BATFE grant C+R status to the Model 39 pistols that were Air Force issue. He is in the process of preparing the application for the change in status. One of the criteria is establishing a valuation that is different from the non-USAF Model 39s. So, three questions:

1. Does anyone have any current or historical information on sales prices of USAF documented Model 39 pistols?

2. One such pistol was issued to General Charles A. Gabriel who retired as 11th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force on 1 July 1986 and died 4 September 2003. A few years ago Smith & Wesson Model 39 pistol serial 106671, with government papers showing issue to the General on 1 September 1977, was advertised for sale at a public auction. Does anyone have information about what auction house conducted that sale and the price realized for it?

3. Is anyone aware of any other examples of the USAF issued Model 39 and are able to provide serial number data on same?

Thanks in advance for any information that can be offered on this subject.

Regards,
