Guys what are your thoughts on the USCCA?

It appears to be like insurance for self defense? Is it valid or is it a ripoff?

Thoughts?

I have mixed feelings. I have been a member for a few years, and I will soon be dropped because of an executive order imposed by my governor. Personally, I wish they would contest his executive order in court, but I can say no more.

While I have been permitted to be a member, their coverage and services were fantastic. I have been told that they plan to provide their disenfranchised members with a year's worth of complimentary "Concealed Carry" magazine. They are in the process of making a free online information/education program available for their disenfranchised members, also.

There are several competing organizations in the market. Two alternatives (among others) are US Law Shield and Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. Look at their coverage and services carefully and make a wise decision.

+1 - Agree with murphydog - there are several other options. Full disclosure is that I chose one of the two he mentioned and hope to NEVER need it.

After research over the past few years, I switched my coverage to CCW Safe. I'm in my second year with them. (I had been with ACLDN prior.)

Next Legislative session here the dumbocrats will consider and pass a law requiring insurance for CCW.

But the question is, will they follow New York state's lead and ban the source of the insurance that they mandate?

A point which sold me on USCCA is that they will advance bail and liability payments upfront. Many competitors claim to offer the coverage, but only on a reimbursement basis (upon exoneration by a court) or upon their successful review of the event. Plus, USCCA extends the post shooting counseling to any family (read: my children) if they are present and witness a self-defense shooting.

To answer the other part of your question, the organizations mentioned above are legitimate and provide an important service. Even if your state is self-defense "friendly" and bars a civil lawsuit after a legally justified incident, the process getting there can be very expensive. Several of them have documented how they have helped their members in these situations, with the understanding they are rare.

After doing some research on the companies available I signed up with USCCA in 2013. Have not needed them yet, and hope that doesn't change. I did speak with them by phone once, and they were very nice and helpful. I took them up on their suggestion that I interview a few lawyers in my area, select the one I feel most comfortable with, and put them on my phones contact list. That way in the unlikely event that I need them it won't be our first contact.

The magazine that comes every six weeks to all members is "top notch", so much so that I have discontinued reading two others.

You make your own decision but I recommend them highly.

This has become my leading candidate soon after I started looking. The question I am self debating "Is the extra money I get in fees, bail, suits, etc. worth the additional price".

I liked the USCCA initially, but then I started getting spammed with their braindead advertisements on YouTube which are apparently aimed at the most ignorant and irresponsible gun owners in the country who don't even bother to learn about state and federal laws concerning firearms/self-defense.

Then at one point, just because I was curious to see how dumb their little guides were, I attempted to download one from their site, only to hit a paywall which required me to become a paid subscriber to their organization before they'd allow me to download their "free" guide.

Nope, I like Gun Owners of America and their no-BS approach.

Does GOA offer the legal support also?

It's like any other insurance, the carrier's betting you'll need it, you're betting you won't. I've had USCCA for a few years. MHO? Money well spent.

I retired from Police work Sept of this year,
I went with USCCA. I was inpressed when I called at 0645 in the morning
And they answered and signed me up. Also they had a 10% discount
For retired LE.

Same here. With ACLDN any funding for your Atty. fees past the 25k upfront intial cost to your atty has to be approved by the ACLDN board.

I started out with the USCCA. They are expensive, offer a subscription magazine. And frequently use a gunn giveaway online. Now that sounds like an expensive item. I went CCW-SAFE for the past 3 years. All are professionals, former law enforcement who have been informed in Selfdefense incidents.

Another member right here, the Mrs as well.
I did look at several options prior to signing up.
A local attorney , who is highly respected in the field , suggested USCCA , as he is affiliated...so that was a no brainer for us....

As with all insurance , pray that you never have to use it.
Being without insurance , when you need it , will destroy your financial life.

House insurance, auto insurance, life, health, pet(sweet lord what next) flood, fire, gap,................................... I would have to get a 3rd job just to pay all the Insurance that someone wants me to buy. USCCA and the like sounds like a great idea. like all insurance if it didn't you wouldn't give em your hard earned $. Most of us will never need these services, especially if you pay attention and mind your own business. So much like having non lethal something, 2 knives, a tourniquet, a bug, enough ammo to defend the Alamo, I'll pass and take my chances. On the other hand, what ever puts your mind at rest and gets you through the night ;)
