Can you fire .45 GAP ammo in a M625 revolver and a 1911 safely? Since .38 ammo can be fired in a .357 revolver, .44 Special in a .44 magnum revolver, and .45 LC in a .454 Casull revolver, the .45 GAP is a slightly shorter version of a .45 ACP and should be ok.
The reason for this question is that someone gave me 500 rounds of .45 GAP ammo so I wanted to use it in my firearms.

All the cartridges you mentioned are rimmed.....45 GAP isn't. It should work in a revolver using moon clips and would probably fire in a .45 acp if there was enough extraction tension to hold it against the breechface. I'm not familiar enough with the pressures/velocities/dimensions of the GAP to say if it's a good idea or not. Worst case...you could pull the bullets and load them in the acp or LC.

The bullets are 200 grain FMJ and are .451 diameter. I think the pressure is slightly higher in the GAP round.

Regarding revolver use, it would be OK with some sort of moon clip. I wouldn't use it in a .45 ACP GM. The reason being that at one time, I was commonly shooting 9mm in a .38 Super. After awhile, the tip of the extractor broke off from the load of holding the case in place during firing pin impact, as the case was not held in place in the chamber by the case mouth at the chamber shoulder, and could move forward on impact. Not a big repair, but it can happen. I noticed it because extraction stopped, and the case remained in the chamber after firing.

Thanks for your inputs.
That is what I was thinking; firing .45 GAP ammo only in my M625 because it uses moon clips. I think I would be hesitant to fire this ammo in a 1911.
