Only been a box of shells through it. Safe gueen or ccw?? She shoots good and have a Galco concealable thumb break hi-ride. My normal ccw is a 642-1. The M19 nickle is real nice 98% plus. Had one back in the day the 1970,s just like her for a carry duty gun. Like the 686 to,but its pretty heavy compared to the k-frame combat magnum. I,m a 56 year old grandpa so what am I saving it for??? Use it or cash in on it or pass it down to one of the boys??

SHOOT IT!!! Wasn't made for a safe. Just give her a good cleaning afterwards and she'll look great for a long time. Don't use Hoppe's to clean it. If it does get under the nickel you'll have uncurable problems with the finish flaking off. I use Militec-1 for cleaning/lube and a wax job once a month with Mcquires.

Carry my 19-4 anytime I'm riding the bike in a Alessi SH and she's holding up fine after 6 months of carry and firing.

DO NOT SELL IT! If so you will regret it and so will your kids. All S&W's should stay in the family IMO.

That should be a "sticky" that stays at the top of the page on the forum.

Shoot that K frame with your kids and grandkids. Priceless memories.

The new kids on the block forget that the M19 snubby protected the Presidents up into the early Reagan years with the secret service boys. For a near two decades. Yes I will use it and pass it on to my son. There is no luggage rack on a hearst.

Sell anything but that. That's an heirloom gun. My dad has one that's identical that will one day be passed down to me. Unless it goes to the grave with him. I'm over 30 now and he hasn't turned loose of it yet.

kEEP IT AND USE IT. I have a 19-4 my dad bought me back in 1992 as a graduation present. He bought it from a San Antonio Police oficer that used it as his off duty gun. I became a cop in 1995 and have used it as my back up gun until 2 years ago when the forcing cone cracked. I just reciently found a replacement barrel for the gun and now have her at the gunsmith being fixed. Once she is fixed I will use her again as my back-up gun...
SO THAT BEING SAID...USE HER DO NOT LET HER SIT IN A DARK OLE SAFE AND BE USELESS.....ONCE READY PASS HER DOWN TO YOUR GRANDSON AS HIS CARRY GUN OR SOOTING GUN.....

Ask someone from Enlgand... or Japan... or Australia... or some other country who has seen their handgun ownership rights slip away.

Someday all civilian handguns that you see, might be behind glass in some museum.

SHOOT THAT DAMN THING!!!

+1!

That ol' gal ain't a virgin anymore after the box of ammo went through her . . . so take her out and enjoy doin' what she was made to do well!

Enjoy that 19. I do mine!!! Frankly, I don't want any "safe queens." I believe that guns are made to shoot, just as cars are made to drive!

Thanks for the input. I will use it and not abuse it. I am 56 and I,m sure it will last my next 20 years if I make it. And my boys lifetime for sure and maybe even grand children. Most good new pistols run $500-1000 today so using a classic will not break the bank. You only go around this world so many times so enjoy the moment and the SW. That's what its made for. I,m a 5 year cancer survivor and this time 5 years ago they said I would be dead by 55. God has blessed me in many ways. thanks!

:)I say shoot it. For me it would be to heavy to carry.
Shoot it and pass it on. Don

Good for you alexcat!!! May God continue to bless you and yours on your journey through life.

If you need a fine holster for that 19 check out HBE Specialty Leatherworks. That 19 deserves a fitting holster and Eric will make you one that'll last a long time and look great.

I to ride a sportster a 2007 883r flat track racer. Its all blacked out. In my Icon jacket I put my 642 and The M19 will ride in a Galco fletch with thumbreak hi-ride. On the bike things can work them selfs loose. One feller had his Sig run down the highway at 70 mph and get run over many times.Rode rash and turned the gun to trash. That won,t happen to my m19 straped down. be safe ,thanks!
