I have a friend with a 22S with a 5 1/2" barrel. He's got the matching blue plastic box, 2 magazines, and paperwork. It's in pretty good shape except for some gray freckling on both sides of the barrel. Hello, stainless steel?
I like the heavy barrel, the rib for optics, and the blocky target sights. In effect, everything my ancient pre-war Woodman doesn't have - except for the panache that comes with it's 80+ years.
The asking price is $300 and he'll throw in a brick of Wildcat ammo. He may come down to $250 since I'm a buddy. I reckon that a gray scotch brite pad and a little gun oil will take care of the surface detractions.
I don't need another .22; I rarely shoot the ones I already own. However, the price seems too good to be true and I can always sell it to recoup my investment. It also may be good trade bait.
Yea or nay?

Nay. My 22S was the worst gun I ever owned. It never fired a 5 round mag load without a malfunction. I called S&W, they said they could make it a little better but it would be very fussy about ammo and never be "flawless"

I traded mine in two years ago and got about $100. The Walther P22 I picked up has it's quirks, but it is reliable.
