This is one the hard to find Double Eagles that USFA made before they closed the revolver shop. The ivories were added later by the original owner. The Double Eagle featured a shorter barrel, bisley hammer spur, larger trigger guard and like this one, often colored frames by Turnbull.

Beautiful!
Back when USFA was in business, I was saving for my dream gun...The same model you have, but in 44 Special.....

I thought I'd have plenty of time, but then they went under....now I cannot find one at all, and if I did....upwards of 2,000 bucks!

You are a lucky man!

Before I found this one I had come to the conclusion that one would never show up so I had my own version built by Andy Horvath and Nutmeg Sports. It is on old model Ruger converted to 41 Special with a Smith & Wesson model 57 barrel and a Powers brass birdshead grip frame that Jim at Nutmeg fit ivories too. I guess it would be appropriate here since this is a non S&W thread.

U.S. Firearms made some darn fine revolvers before they closed up shop. I've examined many, and found them actually superior to the Colts they emulated in fit, finish, and function. They were not cheap, but well worth the investment. I bought one brand new in the box, and have shot it only a few times. The quality of the case hardening on the frame and hammer (done, as I understand it, by Turnbull), is outstanding. This gun was made "under the onion dome" in the old Colt site in Hartford, making it very nostalgic to me, as I had visited Colt's in its heyday there many years ago. This is their "Pre-war" model. My maternal grandfather carried a Colt virtually identical to this in the early years of the 20th Century.

I too wish I had began acquiring USFAs earlier before they stopped production. I did end up with what is a USFA gun that was shipped to Turnbull for them to build and label. It has Turnbull's logo and serial number. It is the upper gun with the carved ivory grips. The lower gun is a Turnbull Open Range I had but since I wanted to keep the ivory stocked gun but need the bisley hammer I swapped hammers then sold the Open Range revolver.

The last one is a long barreled 45 Colt USFA bisley with ivories that I used to own. It got traded to a friend as partial payment on a one of a kind TLA Improved #5 in 41 Mag.
