USGI 10-5

Finally found a USGI 10-5, Ser# D1902XX. Royal Tiger Imports for $399. The last time I reached for my wallet that fast, I was at Larry Flynt's Hustler Club. Bore and charge-holes are excellent, finish rates about 50%. Would I be correct in guessing about 1962 ? On the hunt for one of these for 30-40 years, good to know there's good deals to be had. I picked up one by accident years ago, I got it home and used it as a truck gun then I noticed the P proof mark on the frame. I checked and it was a -5. I have no Idea where it has been or who used it. It didn't have a US on the butt. I do have a M-14 , a M-12 marked with a US and a M-13 USAF marked revolver. I have M-15 with a US Marked, not USAF but I've documentation from the USAF general it came from and a letter from Roy. Lots of old military marked firearms floating around central Texas.

Not a M10-5, but I inherited a Ruger MK I .22 LR target model that is stamped US.

Any idea why the DOD specified a round-butt with a 4" barrel ? Odd-ball combo, to say the least.

I don't know, but I was issued a new in the blue box one and carried it well into 1969. I now own another one, but I don't think it has a military history.

I assume the round butt was easier to keep from jabbing into a guy’s arms or chest as they were usually carried in a shoulder or chest mount holster in aircraft…..We had a lot of these in the Marine Corps that were round butt 4” and they were all airwing…some were 2”, some were 4”, most were 4” square butt, standard and heavy bbl. Some were Ruger police service-sixs’, some were also model 15 s&ws’…again, all air wing guns…I did see some Ruger speed-sixes’ issued to NIS which was renamed NCIS a few years later. We also had model 19s’ which were issued to select embassy duty personal, and we had probably 60 of those at my last duty station for training purposes at the Rifle/pistol team equipment shop where I was a gunsmith, WTBN, Quantico…cheers…
