UZI SMG

I can not recall a seeing Fabrique Nationale manufactured UZIs for sale. However I never really look for them...

I have looked for a transferable FN Uzi, but no luck. They would have had to come in before the 1968 GCA. If there are any here, they are very rare.
I do have an Uzi, made by Group Industries. If it wasn't snowing right now, I would take some friends from California to the range. It should stop snowing tomorrow. The only thing better than coming to my place in Nevada for Thanksgiving is shooting an Uzi afterwards. Or my Lanchester Mk. 1*

My experience with SMG's is relatively minimal. During my military service and law enforcement years I have had the opportunity to use M3A1, Thompson (M1 and M1928), Ingram MAC-10, Carl Gustav (Swedish K), S&W 76, Sten, and Commie-Bloc Ppsh variants. All of those proved to be useful and reliable within the intended limits. None are match-grade accurate. None are serious battle rifles.

I think the common European designations as "machine pistols" is about as accurate as it can get.

The Carl Gustav "Swedish K" was and is perhaps the most elegant of all the sub-guns! S&W's Model 76 was an very poor attempt to copy that. Our local had 6 of the 76's. As far as I know they were never issued because of reliability problems! Only 2 guys I knew has MP5's, nobody had the 10mm version. But a surprising number of people around here have 1928 and M1A1 Thompsons. Even old and "worn out" they have a grace and authority all their own!

Mind you, my experiences are Cold War vintage.

But keep in mind that this isn't a sniper rifle, and at no military shoot I participated in with my issued Uzi did anyone measure something as exotic as groups, they just counted hits on target.

And in that context, the fact that the bolt goes forward in a straight line along the line of fire probably mitigates any serious effect on field accuracy. As I said in my earlier post, surprisingly accurate; we mostly shot single shot and short bursts, and got yelled at if the bursts were longer than two or three rounds.

Soo... who's you? The shorter fellow or the one that looks like Richard Kiel?:D

Have somebody idea, red dot sight mount to UZI?
Many folks that shoot in sub-gun matches have red dots setup

It is very easy to do.

You purchase a second top cover and mount the red dot on that

This allows you to take the red dot (or any optical sight) on and off the UZI in a matter of seconds

I have one set up for mine

Can I see the picture?

The picture of my UZI and suppressor are in post #2

Unfortunately I do not have any photographs of the UZI with the red dot in place

I do not shoot sub gun matches where I am right now.

So that red dot and 2nd top cover are currently sitting at the family vacation house about 4-5 hours away from me by car (each way)

But if you google it, I am certain there must be photos on the Internet . . . It is a very common setup at the matches

To drift a bit, well a lot, someone who lives in a place called "Cocoa Beach" needs a vacation house!!??

I always wonder where do people who live in paradise daily go on vacation? Detroit? Some seedy hotel in Chicago? Get a timeshare in the projects?

Sorry for the thread drift

Don't pick on Chicago :), I was born in Downtown Chicago at 10 minutes past noon, down the block from Gino's East Pizzeria. I think that influenced my figure :)

I grew up on the North side.

I miss the Museums, the blues clubs and the food of the City

I actually live in Fort Lauderdale now. I am spending extended time in Cocoa Beach due to my Mother's health issues so I changed the Forum info.

The vacation house is not mine, it belongs to the family in general and it is a place where we all can gather. In years gone by it has been in Dover NH and Bath Maine, now it is here in Florida

I used to love going up North in the fall for the change in the leaves. We do not have that in Florida, but then in Florida do not have to contract for our heating oil 6 months in advance so that we stay warm in winter and I do not own a Snow Shovel :)

OK, now back to UZIs

Red Dot on IMI UZI. Burris FF3. I just bought a second F/A top cover with the ratcheting charging handle instead of drilling mine. I understand that they are not the easiest to drill. UZI WILL get er done. Red Dot makes it a different gun. 100% better.

I'm also a fan of the wood stock on an Uzi. I think it improves it's effectiveness out around and past 100 yards.

However, I opted for the FF3 mount rather than a picatinny rail. It keeps the FF3 lower and more protected (and even more so with the FF3's cover installed) and it allows it to co-witness with the sights.

BB57 - Does that set up force you to look through the rear peep hole to see the red dot? I love mine riding above the rear sight as it allows me to get a very quick, both eyes open sight picture with the red dot for close in use. I used the top of the white line on the back of the FF3 to use for a rear sight in case my red dot gets incapacitated.
