Value of a 29-3

Got an opportunity to buy a 4" 29-3, it's been shot, but has the box and tools and appears to be in excellent shape. What do you guys think a fair price for this would be?

Around here, you never see any 29's. I'd say $900-$1,000 with the box.

Any price $1,000 and under is a buy. If you search the prices have been climbing on the older ones. But prices still vary to your area. It depends on how bad you want it and how much your willing to pay. It's still a roller coaster ride. It's been a pistol market for a longtime. That's gonna slowly change. Offer low work your way up, haggle.

These days, $1000, even though the 29-3 is not that sought after by collectors.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the shorter length barrels are more desirable over the 6.5" and 8 3/8" barrels. There was a time when the 8 3/8" and 10" barrels were priced cheaper. Today the shorter barrel prices are pretty much equal to the longer barrels.

It's condition, condition vs cost. Don't hesitate to purchase any Revolvers the demand will return this time with new buyers. I think the plastic pistol market has leveled off. There's nothing like a fine quality revolver there a big part of the s&w history when legends were made.

I think the prices on the newer s&w with the loc/ mim, won't go up in cost. The prices and availability will keep the prices in check. Over a decade ago my LGS had a clearance sale on new n frame s&w revolvers. The whole display case was on sale, for $699 nib. I grabbed a few in nickel. A $1,200 list and $699 on sale was a no brainer.

That M-29 is in great shape and it has the original target grips.
I would say $1200 and under, all day long!

I picked this one 29-3(left) up off GB this past winter.
Boxed, tools and paperwork.
Tupperware shoes. I had the stags.
$775.00 shipped.
I am very pleased.

I think you did very well.

I know some turn their noses up at the non P&R revolvers from the 80's, especially the Lear Siegler guns.

I myself find them to be great revolvers.

A LGS had a nib, unshot trade in 29-10/6.6" presitation case, blue case for $699. Can't pass that up.
