I really like my 940-1 but don't shoot / carry it much - almost always opting for my beloved 342. I have a thing for discontinued Smiths. I even enjoy shooting the 342 :)

I'm considering selling the 940-1 and I'm seeing some crazy prices for them under the "completed auctions" on GB. Most in the $750-800 range plus shipping.

Any data points appreciated.

I paid on the low end of that range about a year ago for mine. I don't think that's crazy pricing. I think that's full price to someone who wants it. It also reflects the 940's discontinued status and today's overall seller's market.

$800 is about the average price point. A few lower and many higher. Depends on knowledge of seller to the market and buyers interest in a discontinued 9mm revolver that will never be made again.. at least without an IL. If you can find one under $800 I would grab it. At or above $800 depends on condition, box included and any number of variables.

I just bought one for 750 locally, no box etc, 5 moon clips. Extraction is sticky, and it's not the cleanest gun I have bought, has been carried some and it does show. Functionally good though except for extraction, tight lockup, no endshake.

I got mine a , cherry 940 ( no dash no ) from a friend. He had 20 moon clips, but no box,two knives I had he wanted . It does have one slight nick on one of the cylinders from being dropped I'd guess, but does not hurt the performance. Love the gun and they are no longer made. Price will depend on condition and I have about $600.00 in mine. If you find one I'd grab it.

I have one I bought 2-3 months ago LNIB for $650. Last week I missed another local sale by 10 minutes. Sold for $500.:eek: For whatever reason 940's are the only thing you can find in Ohio.

940 pricing

About 2 years ago I sold one with the box, papers and 20 moon clips for $700 plus shipping.
2 months ago I sold another without the box or accessories except a bag of moon clips face to face for $800.
I don't know how much prices will vary by location but, that's my experience in central Virginia.

Ok, have got to tell this story. Pawnshop friend of mine calls a few months ago to offer a gun; I'm not interested so what else you got? Not much, but mentions he recently sold a S&W 940 but hadn't called cause he didn't think I'd be interested. Wrong, but, ok its gone. Then he says, he's got the box/papers and since the gun is gone I can have that. A couple months later I'm at his shop and the guy who bought the gun comes in and says he really needs to sell it. $600 and the gun and box are back together.
