Value of a blued 6" 17-3?

IMO a "Friends and Family" price is $500-600.......market price around here $600 would not exceed $700......

If it's a stranger .......... who won't set a price....... I'd throw out $500 and see what he says.......... you're not obligated to offer top dollar or high market. Don't bid against yourself.... if he says it's ($500) low ..... then ask him what he's looking for out of the gun..... then work to an agreeable middle ground.

As a rule of thumb LGSs always ask..... "What do you want for it?"..... before making any offer to buy a used gun.

He should have done some research and set an asking price...... IMHO.....

That strain screw thing ..... bothers me too.

Paying 600.00 for a nice used un-boxed K22 is not sky high in any form of the imagination. Just as paying 1000-1200 for a genuine NIB 17-3 depending on its options is what to realistically to expect. Better yet, go to Tulsa and walk for three days and see if you even see a NIB 17-3 at any price. You will see plenty of beaters for 800-900 or at least that's what I saw. When someone ask for an honest value, I try to give it to them. Its not in a gun dealers best interest to inflate prices, for every gun a gun dealer sells remember he has to buy that gun somewhere. Seems very logical to me. Buyers and Sellers read these value threads just the same.

There are dealers who blur the lines between what they see as honest value and inflated prices when it's to their advantage. They certainly have the right to charge what ever they want. They just wait it out for an uninformed buyers with more money than knowledge.

My neck of woods $500-$600 for nice 17 shooter, reguardless of
dash#. Condition is key, on all S&W revolvers that I have looked
at, shows & dealers, recently the sellers opinion of condition is
overstated to say the least. It seems their condition scale starts
at 90% and goes to 100%. When I see signs of tampering, such
as torn screw heads, a primer shim on tension screw, ect- I'm
not going to be paying hi condition shooter price for it. Due to the
crazy prices on S&W original grips, a lot of sellers are putting
aftermarket grips on guns to sell. I realize it is their gun and they
can do what they want with it, but myself I would rather pay a
little more for the gun with original grips.

I agree, I'd ask him what he wants for it. Because you just never know.

If he says make an offer I'd go $500, and on that particular one I'd max out @ $600.
