I have run into a Colt Python for sale, no box or papers. Bright stainless, 4" barrel, Pachmayr's with Colt medallions. Clean as a whistle. I do not need it, but sure do want it, if I can buy it for a reasonable price. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds correct...if you can buy it for less than $1200 you are probably doing good

Curtis is correct for most Pythons but a Bright Stainless model is commanding big bucks in todays market. I see them going for $1800 and higher. the key is is a factory bright finish or a bubba bright finish? without the box and label the only way to know for sure is to get a letter.

Thank you for the replies. Though I have never met him in person, I am familiar with Bubba's work, having seen many examples of it over the years.

I think it was Gallagher who said "there's no accounting for taste, some people like cottage cheese." :)

There was a time, way back, when I had a decent little collection of Pythons. Some good, some bad. Keep in mind I'm a snob about things, and I really don't like poor examples of revolvers, even Colts.

A wide open question on the guns would be any of them are going for $1200 or more these days. Another rule on Pythons is that they're like K22s, where older is better. And it also means newer is less desirable. Stainless fits that definition. The bright ones are sought after for their collector status, surely not for their shooting qualities, or how well they're assembled.

But everyone should own a Python. Not necessarily to keep, but to own and evaluate. They do feel good (just not right to an S&W guy).

Its not a bad gun to own and shoot occasionally. Just don't shoot it enough you need it worked on. And be sure the one you're looking at isn't worn to that extent.

Reasonable is in the eyes of the beholder, especially where Pythons are concerned. Their prices are run the gamut from high to holy crap! However, I couldn't pass up this blued 6" for $699 a few weeks ago, no box but still a good price in Python dollars.
