Another Newbie question

There are a couple of K-22's on Gun Broker, one of which will sell today and another in a day or so. I'm tempted but the way bidding is going I can see them selling for maybe $600 or more. Seems excessive.

Any opinions? Are there ever "good deals" on auction sites?

Thanks

Steve

I paid 675 for my 17-2 at a gun store. Little bullets do not mean a little price around here. Used 22 revolvers do not stay on the shelf around here as lots of people want them for teaching their kids to shoot.

As far as deals on auction sites, I have a couple of long guns that came at a good price because of lack of bidder interest. One came because the seller misspelled Remington in the Auction title. I think I am the only bidder who found it. For the most part Smiths and Colts do not go for bargain prices on auction sites.

Have to look around. Prices on everything keep rising. I see plain old Model 10s going for $500+ and this strikes me as nuts but apparently some people will pay it.

There are deals on Gun Broker. I bought a nice (not perfect by any means) shooter grade Model 14 for $100 about four years ago. Got a Triple Lock for $300 maybe five years back. It happens. But with an Internet site there are thousands of potential buyers who may see the listing. Lots of competition.

I think if you look around a while a K22 can be found for $450 or so. Maybe less on a good day. It seems some sellers don't understand that an 80% gun is worth less than a new one and asking prices are often ridiculous. You might have to decide how badly you want it. At this point in my life there isn't anything I am so desperate to own that I will pay too much for it. That's the one advantage to being old and already owning most of what you want.

For me part of the fun is getting a good deal. I would love to own a Model 45. Don't know why, I just have always wanted one. Sellers want $1,500+ for decent one. I could write a check, I have the money available, but I wouldn't be able to enjoy owning it. Some folks just want the gun. Period. They will pay whatever it takes to have it. Not I. Different perspectives and priorities.

I looked for a pre-model K22 for a couple years and found a decent one at a local show last year for $325. That was a pretty good deal. But I spent about three years looking. That's three years I went without being able to enjoy the gun while I tried to save a few bucks. You figure out how long you are willing to look vs. how badly you want the gun. If you really, really want it, then write the check. It's only money. You can make more.

DEFENDER-THAT K-22 IF IN REAL GOOD SHAPE WOULD BE A STEAL AT $600. TWO WEEKS AGO AT THE GUN SHOW THERE WAS A 17 FOR $600 IT WAS NOT IN GOOD SHAPE.SEVERAL DAYS AGO THERE WAS ONE ON GUN BROKER NIB FOR $1295.CONDITION CONDITION! I WOULD LIKE ONE TO.

You have to pick your spots. What I've noticed about Gunbroker this last year or so is that there are a lot of guns offered at very high start or reserve prices which get no bids at all. The ones that get action invariably are the no reserve, low start price guns. That tells me that there are a lot of sellers out there with unrealistic expectations. Sort of like the real estate market before the bubble burst. I suspect that we'll start seeing opening prices and reserves coming down in the near future.

I've purchased two guns off Gunbroker in the last 12 months. Each of them had a "buy now" price that I thought was extremely reasonable. I've not been tempted to get involved in any of the bidding wars.

I got the 1948 k22 the other day for $300 with Holster and bullet belt and 600 rounds ammo.I had been watching them on Gunbroker, may could have got it cheaper but felt $300 wasnt taking advantage of my friend.

You never know what it will see.
I sold a plain Jane 6" model 66-2 for 575 on GB about 3 months ago.
Way too much I think.
BUT you will see your best price there on GB since as well all know that you can bid away from your chair!
The better the pics the better you will do !

With the price of ammo, .22 guns have gone skyhigh. Worse here in Mass since any gun made before 1998 had to have been owned and registered here before that date or you can't buy it from an FFL.

I don't see .22's coming down in the near or not so near future, plus they are fun!

Well 22 caliber S&W revolvers are a hot item and have been for the past 6 to 8 months. I got two a model 17-4 and a Model 18-4 at a gun show for $550 each out the door and I was super happy. I bought a K22 with 6 inch barrel last year for $500 and it was in 96% condition with just a little muzzle wear and it came with diamond target grips. You would be hard pressed to find one at that price today unless you were just plain lucky.

The 22 S&E revolvers don't sit on the shelf long these days and people pretty much get what they are asking for them unless they are outrageous in their asking price. On Gunbroker it costs nothing to list a gun so some dealers put them up at really high prices hoping to get someone who doesn't know gun values or someone that really wants or needs the gun and will pay it.

I paid $575 for one and $615 for the other. Early fifties and gold box too. Do not feel bad at all...

Since I started this thread, I've picked up to "pre" K-22's both for $400. A 4 incher from a pawn shop and a 6 incher at a gun show. Both great condition - I'm a happy camper.
