Question on the value of my...Model 60 .38Cal Stainless Chief Special "No Dash"...It does not have a pinned barrel. I bought it new at Clark Bros. in Warrenton, Va. about..sometime in the 1987 time range if I recall.
It is new in the box and never been fired. I have all the papers and tools and the original box it came in.

I would like it to go to a collector who could really appreciate it.
What do you guys think a fair asking price would be? Thanks..BB

Could you share the s/n? It would be helpful. Also, is it a 2-inch round butt? There may be a 6-digit product code and a 4-digit Spec. Ord. number on the box label. What are those numbers?

Yes..the s/n number is: ANE2123..the Spec. Ord. is: 6197 and yes it is a 2" bbl with a round butt. The Product Code is: 102302. If you need photos send me an email address to: [email protected]. I have never posted a photo here..so Im trying to read how to do it now. Thanks..BB

Upload your photos to Photobucket and then download them to this site. Click on that "Insert image" icon just above the text window and paste the photo's "Direct" link in it.

102302 is the 2" round butt produced from 1984 - 1995. In my neck of the woods, Northern Georgia - where 60's are common are always come up on the gun forums - unfired, with box and dox - between 600 and 700, max.

I see a lot of model 60 no-dashes that are pinned with asks for 700+ and they just sit and sit....

Yours is an excellent gun, but if someone is looking for a "collector's piece" they will likely want the no dash with the pinned barrel.

The model 60 has been produced in very large numbers, and thus there are many available. Yours is truly unfired and has the box and dox, which can up the price a bit. But in all likelihood you'll have better luck pricing it as a shooter in the 550 - 600 range.

Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it. I was researching it and it gets a little perplexing but I agree even though it is in mint condition...with all the docs & box and not being fired, the Value comes down due to the fact it does not have the pinned barrel. I think I bought it in 1985-87. Will check with S&W on monday. I feel now that $600-$650 is the right price for it. I will try to put some photos on. I may even sell it here once I figure the photo thing out. Thanks..BB

I'm pretty sure the no dash is correct. I have several in my database on either side of this one and they're all no dashes. The dash 1 were the Ashland adj sight guns and the dash 2's didn't come along til some time later.

Serial # not clear in this photo

Like I mentioned before the Serial # ANE2123 is the actual number but the glare angle is a bad focus. Better photos coming tomorrow. Thanks all for the help..BB

Your right. I forgot that part of the Model 60's history. It was really the -3 that superseded the standard production no-dash in 1988. The pin had nothing to do with the dash numbers. The -1 was a limited run 3-inch square butt and an adjustable sight 2-inch target, and the -2 was a gun just for New York law enforcement.

Here is a photo of the Original Box it came in. And few other photos also. For some reason I cannot seem to focus in on the "mod" 60..with my digital nikon, yet I can with my cell phone which takes better photos. I can email photos if anyone needs them. No problem..BB
