If I read the serial on the cylinder correctly as C 128060, it's an early 1950s M&P.

Stocks obviously not original :)

Maybe in the lower 300s.

My C113xxx shipped 9/50 and I paid $300 for it from Gunbroker.

My C155xxx shipped 5/50 (yes, 4 months before an earlier s/n) and I paid $695 for it (stocks match and the orig box came with it). This from a gun store in Jacksonville, FL, area.

Military & Police Model made between 1948 and 1957 (based on the contour of the hammer). Others have narrowed it down to around 1950 based on the serial.

In my non expert opinion for the gun alone around $300. But that's me. You have to decide what it's worth to you.

You have a nice M&P with aftermarket plastic Fitz target grips. $300 gun for most people.

Unless they came with the gun, you'll never find the serial-matching stocks (grips) so put whatever you want on there or keep the Fitz ones. A popular option is the Altamont "Service Panel" grips which look quasi-original without trying to be the real thing. Period correct grips in great condition will probably cost in the $80-$110 range, if you can find them.

Based on numerous nearby SNs I have listed, your M&P probably shipped in mid-1950. Regarding value, I agree with others that it would probably sell for around $300.

Looks like old school Fitz grips on it? $350 would be tops for me if I really wanted it.

I concur with others who have suggested a 1950 ship date for this .38 Military & Police revolver. I show one at C127431 that shipped in September, 1950.

But just to illustrate how mixed up ship dates can be relative to the serial number, I also show C104780 shipping in August, 1950, and C133082 shipping in September of the same year.

In line with what others have mentioned but more on the "Why". You have a nice example of one of the most common S&W revolvers ever in a bbl length that is neither uncommon nor highly sought after. It has no box, tools or shipping papers that might have collector value and isn't original. It is a nice shooter in the most common caliber made for finding nice shooters in. Enjoy it if it has a history for your family.

I find FITZ grips of that style to be a bit hard on the eyes - but extremely functional.
Give 'em a whirl.

What would be the "official" designation of the model produced prior to 1948 ? I own an "S" prefix made in 1947 .
