Varget powder ?

i use varget for .308 and .223 almost exclusively.
its best to consult a reloading manual.
hodgon's is available on-line.
so are others.
errors/typos can be dangerous.
manuals are proofed.

What is your sport?
Varget is a bit slow for lighter bullets like the 55 grain, there are better choices.

I would also suggest using a manual, it is dangerous to get load information second hand over the net. Typos can be very dangerous. I myself am loving my CFE223 for both 223 and 308 and have never used Varget, I traditionally used IMR4895 until I found the CFE.
I do use a manual but Varget is not listed in it. I was just looking for a starting load not a hot load or max load. I figured someone with Varget info could tell me a good place to start.

the lyman book shows varget to have the potentially most accurate round although I am not sure what that means, but they highlight the most accurate round of that weight bullet and varget is the one they highlighted

I use Varget almost exculsively for .223, and .243. Meters like water out of my Lee Perfect Powder Measure (& Lyman #55), so I would be inclined to believe your RCBS uniflow would handle it without a hitch. Varget is accurate for EVERY bullet I shoot in .223 (50-80gr) & .243 (55-105). There may be better choices for each individual weight and caliber, but I havn't gotten better results across the board (IMR4895 came close, but Varget meters better). I did not like Varget at all in my lee pro system..... kept CLOGGING and not dropping any powder...
X-terminator is awesome and the new Bulk 844 Powder is great...
The varget SHOT real well..... and some SERIOUS poop.... but loading was a PAIN....

I used Varget 15 years ago when I had my last AR. I was using 26grns with a Hornady 60grn HP bullet. My rifle was a Olympic Arms PCR with a 20in heavy barrel with a 1-8 twist and free floated handguard. At 100 yards off sand bags I got 3 shot groups into 5/8in. That was the best that barrel would do, which was fine with me.
I had tried 4 or 5 different powders but Varget was the most accurate one. Here's the target of the last of my handloads that I did 15 years ago. This was unsupported shooting at 25 yards with a 3MOA red dot scope and I'm not nearly as good as I was 15 years ago.

+1 for Hodgdon annual basic reloading 2012. It was only $8.99 at LGS and it had all the powders I keep listed. IMR 4198, Varget and CFE 223. Just be careful you are looking in the rifle section and not in the pistol section at the end as .223 is listed in both places.
for lighter and midweight bullets H335 is the old standby, Varget is popular with Highpower and Service rifle competitors but we don't shoot the lighter bullets. 75-80's are all the rage these days.
