Not my usual forum area as I mostly live (and compete) in the present.
However, this one is too nice not to share, and I know everyone likes pictures..
A bud called me last week saying he had purchased an old S&W and asked my help to ID it. Naturally, I said "bring it over".
What I discovered was a 1905, 4th Change dating to the 1930s, based on it's S/N:593569.
Appears to have never been reblued.
Only a few freckles and minimal bluing loss at the muzzle.
Snapped a few images to share:

Not re-blued?? . . .

I would say absolutely not . . . or likely not. . .

I see no indications in the pictures that the gun has been touched up or refinished, but of course there are only two pictures. The stocks ran to 1930 and the barrel shaped ejector rod knob started in 1927, so that narrows it down to pre 1930 unless it was one of those holdovers that languished in the back of the inventory bin for a few years. Unlikely, but possible with that little hick-up called the Great Depression.

Tell your buddy to get out and shoot it.

They're great fun and likely more accurate than most can hold.

My 1928 is a favorite. Nothing quite like 6" M&P's, and pre war is just icing on the cake imo.
