Vices. Vises.

I have used vises for more decades than I care to admit. There is always 2 or 3 mounted in my shop. I even have a 3" vise sleeping in the tool box of my plow truck. The 2 vises I have in my shop now are both USA made Wiltons. The 6" mechanics vise has been the main vise in my construction yard since 1977. I also have mounted a small Wilton baby bullet for fine work. The oldest is a late 1800's Parker. Someday I need to learn how to post pictures. Deathgrip, that is a nice old Prentiss machinists vise. A word of advise, that flat area behind the static jaw is NOT an anvil. It was never designed to be beaten on. On Prentiss brand vises this is actually a thin area and is easily damaged or broken when beat upon.

Let there be no topic not discussed!:D

This is one of the weirder threads I have seen on a forum.

Funny you should mention that. For people who work with vises, they are as loyal to one brand as they are to cars and guns. There is a forum who's main threads are tools and construction. Their vise sub forum has 50 comments per page and they have nearly 3000 pages just on the subject of vises.

Here's my Grandpas little vice mounted on his tool box that he used at Pan-Am. He had to cut the bottom a bit so the tool box would open.
