With apologies to Steve Martin. Just got a text saying there is a toll charge tied to my license plate of approx. $10. Several things wrong with that. There are only 2 places in the state that charge tolls and both of them are bridges I have never been on, as a passenger, driver or even pedestrian. I haven't even driven past them in almost 2 decades. Also, I haven't left the state in 5 years, and never went on a toll road then. I have never driven on a toll road in my life. My license plate is on my car which I bought in December. The plate is new, assigned after the sale by the DMV. I received it in late February. Since then, I have been no more than 8 miles from my house and my car has been with me the whole time. Plus, it's a good car. It wouldn't sneak out and travel on toll roads by itself late at night. That's not how it was raised.:D
There was a link to "take care of" it, but I just reported as spam and blocked the number. I love it when they're this easy to spot.

I get 20-25 robo calls a day. Just let the machine answer. Amazing how many times they have called in the last 6 mo. You'd think their computer would figure it out that there is nothing here for them. Disgusting what these mutts will do for $$$.

I am waiting for all the money that Nigerian Prince promised me for helping him out. It should amount to many tens of thousands of $$.

I have been getting two to three daily robocalls telling me about the new Medicare benefits I am entitled to. I block every one, but it does not help. Got two unpaid toll notice e-mails yesterday. Reporting those does not stop them either.

You mentioned Medicare, lately I have got calls from some boilerroom telling me Medicare has authorized me to get some sort of doohickey. They do call me by name and know my house address, but do not know much else.

One even got a bit urinated off on me when he asked me to confirm my address and I said possibly. No way was I going to authorize this piece of equipment! He asked something else and got the same reply and then in his best downtown Bombay accent he said you must be a crazy ******* if you do not know where you live and hung up.

Got to admit I never got a response like that before!

That’s hilarious.
I also like to mess with scammers but I’m not that creative!
The first credit card call was regarding a card I no longer have. I got rid of it 30 years ago. The information they had had my ex wife’s name on it and we hadn’t been married in 31 years. Also the address was from where I lived 24 years ago.

They get upset if you laugh at them and call them a liar.

I love messing with them too. I was getting multiple calls per day checking to see if I had made a $700 charge at a CVS in Dallas and a Target purchase in another city. I live in Tennessee but always would respond “yes I made those purchased, I’m traveling”. It always throws them off their track. Often they don’t know what to say.

Other times I play along and ask what can I do and then they’ll want my complete card number, expiration date and security code. That’s when I challenge them and ask questions they would have the answer to if legit and that usually sends them over the edge.

One caller I asked where he was calling from. I knew he was East Indian but he said California. I asked what city and he couldn’t answer. He then said he was calling from Florida and I asked what city and again he couldn’t answer. I’m guessing most are uneducated about the US so they can’t answer these questions. Eventually he said “you got me”. He confesses to being in India and was working for a guy that buys the info from the dark web. He said there are no jobs in India and he was 19 and had to support his family. His dad had died and he was supporting his mother, sister and himself on $100 per month.

We chatted for a while and I told him to call me back which he did the next day. He and I talked again and he told me he had decided to quit his job and find an honest job. I commended him and hope he did.

I get a dozen calls a day mostly with no one on the other end. They’re just harassment calls so I mute the ringer on my phone and let them go to voice mail but they never leave a message. If I happen to see a number I recognize I answer but I get very few calls. Most communication is by text now.

And yes I get multiple scam emails for things I’ve won with companies I’ve never done business with and our favorite the past due toll. Funny, we have no toll roads in Tennessee and I haven’t been on one in about 10 years.

Here on the “Gulf of America” coast, we get the Toll scam texts almost weekly.

Florida’s department of transportation doesn’t do such a thing.

You either have a “Sun-Pass”
transponder tag on your windshield you’ve purchased in your vehicle; or you get a “snail mail” letter from FDOT with an invoice from the “Toll-By-Plate” camera’s located at the Toll Bridge location.

During construction I wasn't able to use the land line phone for about a month.
When I got reconnected and listened to my messages I had over 300 messages.
Most were hang ups but there were a few from CVS telling me my meds were in and a few more were Medical scammers and a few that really frosted me.
Now I use the phone ringer as a wake up service - one poor guy calls regularly at 7:05 every morning. I don't answer and they don't leave a message.
