Victory model for the data base

I found a victory model smith at the pawn shop today. It is in 38 special
And U.S. Property GHD marked on the top strap very ruff machining marks and a thin dull blue finish. It does not have the proof P on top of the frame in front of the hammer that my others have. The ser # is V 418868 .
Its in great working shape locks up very tight just a very ruff finish.

That's related to the time period it shipped. The US property stamp means it is a Victory shipped under an Army Supply Program contract, to a military destination.

At least according to the data summary in Charles Pate's book, ASP contract guns did not start getting stamped with the triple P (left top frame, cylinder, underbarrel) until approx. January 1944. Your serial indicates your gun likely was produced a few months earlier.
 
Thanks for the info guys these are neat old guns with a lot of history. Proud I could add this one to my collection.
