Victory Model Marking?

My friend has a S&W Victory model with the markings WP-LP stamped on the backstrap of the gun. Can anyone shed some light as to what these letters stand for?? I've looked online but cannot find any information on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It would have to be WB, not WP. Maybe badly stamped.

It’s a police marking from 1946, US-occupied Germany.

WB = Württemberg-Baden (the state, in SW Germany)
LP = Landpolizei (Rural Police)
