The great baseball announcer Vin Scully, after 67 years of painting the pictures of the game in the minds of millions of fans, was given a pregame retirement ceremony last night at Dodger Stadium.
It was pretty moving to see the 88 year young gentleman and his wife recieve the accolades of a super packed stadium. He's gonna call three more home games and then he's walking off a winner.

He went to church before calling the World Series and didn't pray for one team to win, but rather "that there wouldn't be any goats".

I had the privilege of listening to Vin during my high school and college years right after the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles. Even then we recognized what a great announcer he was. This year, I subscribed to DirecTV's Extra Innings package just to be able to listen to him in his final season. He hasn't lost a beat, smooth and articulate as ever with lots of interesting stats and stories to fill in the slow spots. I'm an old retired geezer now, and it's mind-boggling to me to realize that when he first started broadcasting Dodger games, I was in kindergarten.
I'm certainly going to miss him.

As an employee of one part of the Dodgers organisation, I was amazed ( several years ago) when I discovered his age and history. It was then that I realized that his voice was one that was instantly recognizable from my earliest childhood memory of baseball on the radio.
One of the many perks of my job is free subscription to mlb.com best package.

I grew up with a transistor radio under my pillow listening to Vin & Jerry & Dodgers baseball brought to you by Farmer John...

He will be missed. :(

Imagine the poor slob who has to replace him!
