Volquartsen sells a lot of Ruger MKI-II-III & MKIV’s, the Upper or barrel is made from aluminum with a 22 sleeve. How does the breech end hold up from the bolt slamming into it over time? I’m sure these are used in bullseye and one year a lot of ammunition goes down the barrel. Volquartsen has a great reputation for accuracy and I hear no negative on how well the barrels hold up.

Thinking of a Mamba Barrel for my MKIV, don’t want to spend the money if the barrels don’t hold up. Larry

I've only a few hundred rounds thru my mamba mini x. But have thousands thru a TacSol Buckmark barrel that is kinda made the same.

The breach is stainless on the Volquartsen. I'd guess it would last as long or longer than a stainless model Mark.

Hi Larry,

A buddy of mine owns a Black Mamba like this:

Mamba-TF | Volquartsen Firearms

He bought it for fun, but asked me to try it because he knows how much I shoot Bullseye and Free Pistol.
We met at the range, where I was shooting 50 yd free pistol. So, I shot his Volquartsen at the target I had set up.
I fired a magazine and it felt great. The trigger is excellent and the recoil characteristics made follow up shots feel easy.
Checked the target and all the shots were within about 3-3.5”.
Here’s the rub….
I’m a lefty, but the pistol had the right hand target stocks. So, I shot it right handed (one hand, of course).
Honestly, I think the Volquartsen might just be the best American made .22 target pistol being made today, (although I haven’t tried the newest High Standards!). Out of the box, literally…wow!
The current S&W model 41s don’t come anywhere close.

For myself, I’d have to go with a Feinwerkbau AW93 or Pardini (either at about twice the price) to beat it.
So, while $1500 might seem like a lot, the Volquartsen is actually a bargain.
I think you’d really love it!!

PS: the Black Mamba has a “laser hardened” stainless steel breech.

Thanks so far, I actually have a Ruger MKIV 5” target but don’t like the accuracy at 50 ft where I shoot. Before I sell it, a last ditch fix would be a Volquartsen upper. That would put me roughly 1000.00 on it. Not sure I want that much in it. I installed the Tandemcross trigger kit in it. Larry

I don't like this gun but it is extremely accurate

Hoping to get more opinions but searching shows Volquartsen uppers are top quality as stated here. No breach problem. Here is a picture of the MKIV with an extra upper, was hoping to get a more accurate barrel than the original with open sights. Always liked the look of the Ruger MK pistol’s and like all the options on the MKIV.

Also like the look of the Tandemcross trigger, Larry
