Ordered a base for my Ruger MKIV 22/45 and a Vortex Venom.

Removed the rear sight and got the base mounted no problem.

Thought I'd put the battery in the Venom before mounting it. It's just not happening. The battery cover screws on perfect without a battery, but no dice with the battery. Kinda need the battery for the site to work.

Since I stopped smoking a little over 5 months ago, my rage level has been off the charts. I'm afraid the Venom will meet my B.A.H very soon.

Anyone have one of these, and had similar problems?

With the battery in, the cover wont go down far enough for the threads to catch, and yes I have the battery in the right way.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having a problem, but that is a tricky cover. I have had luck with putting the cover on and rotating it counter clockwise to help get the threads lined up and it does require downward pressure. I turn it a couple of times and you can feel that the threads are lined up and then gently but firmly turn it clockwise. If you have tried this, I'm out of suggestions - sorry. Congrats on quitting smoking - I'm around 10 years quit and I appreciate what you are going through. Good luck!

I've got one also, and yes it's tough to get the cover engaged into the threads and screwed down. Vortex CS told me "don't be afraid to crank down on it." And yes, once I got the threads lined up, it screwed down nice and tight.

I live my Venom, BTW.

I got one six months ago. Same thing. It does require down force to get the threads to engage. Not what I would expect for the money. The first one had no vertical adjustment. Midway replaced it, no problem. The second one works, but same battery cover issue. My last Vortex.

There's a micro little O ring at the top of the threads of the battery cover.

I bet it would go on a lot easier if it wasn't there.

I'm putting this on a 22/45 for killing cans and paper. It's not like it will be out in the elements.

I'll try a big screw driver in a while, I had to hide it for a while.

Thanks in multitudes everyone!

I recently put that exact sight on my Ruger Mark II, but I bought the display (the only one they had left) and it already had the battery installed.

I'm glad to see you got it figured out!

I have two of those. It's a bad design. The first one I bought was fine, second one is a bear. If you have a small c clamp, clamp it on the battery over night to compress it, then try it.

Never mind. I see you got it.
