All M&Ps are single action guns.
The definition of double action, single action, double action only and double action/single action is based on what the trigger does.
Single Action(SA):
The trigger only releases the sear (fires the gun).
Double Action(DA):
The trigger cocks and releases the sear (cocks and fires the gun). A double action gun can be fired either double action or single action.
Double Action Only(DAO):
The trigger cock and releases the sear (cocks and fires the gun). This type cannot be fired as a single action.
Double Action/Single Action(DA/SA):
On the first trigger pull, the trigger cocks and releases the sear (cocks and fires the gun). Each subsequent pull, the trigger only releases the sear (fires the gun). The sear is cocked by the action of the slide.
If it is listed anywhere as DAO it is wrong. Some manufacturers call their striker fired guns DAO when they aren't. I believe this is for legal reasons. Nevertheless, all M&Ps are single action guns. Further, the gun cannot be modified to be a DAO. Well, I guess it could, but that would require massive changes to the frame and trigger mechanism. It would cost far more than the gun is worth.
