Had two gift cards for Cabela's and finally got to have the little
wife drive me out there to look around, since the Doctor will not let me drive yet with the neck surgery.

Looked at all the bullets first to see if there were any that had a
low price, like the last visit but nothing today.
Went over to the powder area and they had every thing except Alliant pistol powders.
HP38, W231, Tightwad, Universals, WSF etc. etc.
Picked up two powders and on the way out looked at the Hoppe's.
5oz bottle at $7.99 and a large Quart bottle at just $16.99.
Well I can add pretty well and tossed a third item into the shopping cart.
Lots of HP38 and W231 left for any Reno guys.
Later.

I can almost always find Hodgdon powders here. I've about given up trying to find Western powders. I liked #9 and Zip and would like to try #2, TAC and others but they're never seen.
Curious, was HP-38 cheaper than the W231?

Collo;

Sorry I did not bother to ask the prices on the two kissing cousins.
HP is usually a little cheaper.

Now you tell me !!

I did not really need powder but hay, it was nice to get out of the house
with no snow, rain or wind for a change.

Got the IMR4831 just because the can on the reloading table was half empty. It will be at least 80 days before I think about going to the rifle range, here in Nevada.

Hope all had a great Christmas.

Same here in Texas.
Sometimes I wonder if Alliant is still in business?

Agreed! Alliant seems to be unobtainium these days. Interesting that IMR just announced some new powders. They seem to be aimed at filling the void previously filled by Alliant classics. Some very "imaginative" names:

*Red
*Green
*Blue
*Target
*Unequal

I wonder what their marketing group would do to aim at 2400?

How about MMCD? or 2.4 x 10^3?

There's a lot of Alliant powders here in ohio, probably everyone they make and in all sizes. Just picked up 8# of herco.

One does not need an excuse to buy powder! Glad to hear you got out of the house. A fellow at work had 2 vertebrae replaced in his neck on the 15th. Called to wish him well and he's not been out of the house other than physical therapy. He's not a shooter or reloader... poor guy has nothing to look forward to!

I had 4-5 worked on and pinned.
Had to learn how to get out of bed and get dressed all over again.
One of my happiest days was being able to shower and shampoo my head and hair again, with out any help.

Had surgery planed on the 18th but on the 17th ay 6:30am went to get out of bed and my left leg would not move...............

If you have body parts that work, be very, very glad !!

I know how you feel Ed.
I was looking forward to benchrest when I was flat on my back and parylized, even facing amputation of both arms.
Looking forward and finding ways to do things kept me fighting to regain my independence.
Im still working at it but Im a lot better off now than I was 4 years ago.
I got most of my body parts working again against all odds and am glad and thankful.

Nevada Ed: Sincerely hope you are feelin' better, soon!

p.s. What is "Tank"?

Same here in Richmond, Virginia. I recently bought some 2400 and Unique. There seemed to be plenty of the other Alliant powders as well at my local gun shop. At the last gun show I attended there were four or five vendors with plenty of Alliant products at competitive prices.

There must be some distribution problem. Maybe because the Alliant plant is only a couple hundred miles away is why we don't have a shortage.

per post #11;

Oh, you have been reading my 9mm post.......

"Tank" refers to a 3.5" 9mm that weighs in at 29 oz. empty
that I picked up that will eat and so far shoot any thing that I load......
even loads over the manual maximum loadings.

Tried lots of compressed powder loads with different bullet
weights that are not listed in the manuals from the short
minimum OAL's to the maximum of 1.165" that takes a lot
more powder if the data is logged on the short oal case.

I have dabbled a little in +P loads but most my full loads are only NATO spec's
and 90% of my work is with target ammo for me and the family members.

For example, I have a 125gr plated out of my 3.5" pistol that
will crawl out at 701fps all the way up to 1288. Lots of my
loads, I will not post, for safety reasons.

Apparently marketing on the KISS principal--or the CEOs 4 yr old grandson named them.

Got a bunch of Alliant powder in New York. Picked up 3# of Bullseye six months ago, and an 8# keg of Unique a couple months after that.

I was surprised to see the BE and snatched up the three individual pounds. Then, of course, the stuff suddenly became thick on the ground, and 4# kegs showed up

Show you how long since I have bought W231, I didn't recognize the bottle, all of mine are in the old Winchester blue container. Guess I had better make a trip to LGS and see what else is new. By the way, glad you are up and around again.

I bought several pounds of BE as an emergency back-up for my favorite Win 231/HP-38. Now, of course, I can find plenty of my fav.

Only one LGS within 40 miles or so (that I know of) carries reloading supplies here in central Alabama and they are fully stocked. I was in today picking up a few things amongst the shelves heavy with powders--including Alliant products. Hopefully, this condition will remain and extend to those areas not fully up to speed.

One of those nights where I could not sleep from the shoulder
and neck pain, even with super duper pain pills taken at 9pm.

Thank you all for your best wishes and for those of us with minor or major problems............
Keep on trucking and get er done.

I have enough supplies but one can't help but look at the bullets and powders now and then,
to hope for a little golden nugget, sitting on the shelf.
I just got through testing CFE Pistol and HS-6 powder against Unique in the snub 38 special and 9mm C9.
I don't think I need to do any more silly testing?

Here BE-86, where are you ? :D

I would not mind hearing (reading) the results of your tests with HS-6. I believe it replaced Winchester 540.
