WalMart 6 box ammo limit?

The WalMarts are weird. At the peak of the ammo shortage they had a 5 box limit. Strangely the WalMarts do not all carry the same ammo lines. Some places have the big 250 packs, others do not.

I deal with the manager and usually the limit is not enforced if the stock is good. It remains on the books and a new employee may be working "by the book."

Who notes Academy Sports is cheaper by about $1 -$3 per box depending on quantity. But for me Academy is further away...sigh.

I think that the limits some Walmarts put on ammo purchases is to please the greatest number of customers. There are too many like the guy I saw at my local Walmart Supercenter gun counter:
"Got any 9 mm in?"
"Yes, sir. We just got four cases in."
"OK. I'll take it all."
That's the reason why they are usually out of ammo when I need some. :(

I was gald to see my walmart carry the 250 packs of ammo for 9 and 40. Then I compared the price and found for 9, its cheaper to buy the 50 pack federal, and for the 40 its cheaper to by the 100 pack winchester.

In my area several "basement" gun shops buy their ammo this way and re-sell it for $4-$5 a box more. I hate those guys, as they buy up ALL the 45 ACP and 44 Mag as soon as it hits the shelves.

I know of 5 Super Wally Worlds all with in a 45 minute drive from my House, and they all sell Guns & Ammo. And the one I go to the most always has a very good supply of Ammo in all Cal' with no limits, and they even stock the UMC 250 rnd packs.I've really been stocking up on the 115gr HP Remington 100 rnd' packs for $24.

At my Wally World they sell the hundred packs for $30 and the 250 packs for $72.

Well they did anyway, the 250 packs were gone last time I was there and there was no tag where they should go. Maybe they won't stock them....

Yesterday my order came in from Tactical Ammo though... 1000 rounds of .40 for $265 shipped, no tax. :D

Oh, and it's in a really nice metal military ammo can!!!

I believe WM is doing a service so all of us can enjoy their lower
prices. If one or two people buy the entire stock of a particular caliber the rest of are SOL! Also I've noticed WM ammo at gun show tables at elevated prices of course. Sid V.

No limit that I'm aware of for the Wally World by me. Lately they haven't had any of the Federal .22 550 bulk packs in stock. I asked one of the clerks if he knew when they get them in and he said that they don't control the orders and that they are shipped random ammo on a daily basis. I also have issues sometimes finding a clerk to get my ammo because sometimes there is nobody there working the guns and ammo section and not everyone has a key for the ammo.

I pretty much have to run someone down who has to run someone else with a key down to buy my ammo.

On a positive note, I bought a 100 rnd, 9mm winchester. It came with 101 rnds :-)

this is a huge talk over in the 1911 forums

I myself last week bought all this at my Walmart (besides the Kimber)

These are from my understanding:

Walmart Super Centers will not carry ammo

Walmart is the distributor for Winchester reason why it is so cheap there

6 box limit goes for certain Walmart, reason unknown.

I've talked with the Store manager bout this and he believes it doesn't matter who has the money. It's not like they sell it to anyone. Must be a FOID card carry. He also understand the price hike coming May 1 of it being 5%-15%. If for some reason the system only allows 6 boxes, he said he'll just ring it up different transactions.

The only issue I have is that .45 Auto is very hard to get and rarely restocked. I take what I can and leave no box behind.

As for 9mm, plenty and always restocked.

I stop by everyday home from work only to catch if they have .45s, especially the Value Pack 100 rounds 230gr for $32.00
the 9mm 115gr VP 100 rounds go for $20.00
so youre the reason the case is empty:D
