Didn't want to tack on to the other thread so that people didn't miss this that may be interested.

Just left my local Walmart and the ammo appeared to be on clearance.

Prices were around 15-20% off or so.

Can't say for other stores but the tags had been replaced with a closeout style tag that was a different color all together.

I bought some Winchester 9mm NATO. All the rest was still priced at or above my local online supplier.

All calibers at my local were clearance priced, except for the shotgun shells.

The kid working the counter said Walmart was getting out of the cartridge game completely due to politics, so what’s on hand will be on clearance until the warehouses are empty and the contracts run out.

Bought 2 100 round .223 packs for $29.99 each. They were $39.99 a few months ago. Grabbed a brick of .22 also. Never want to get caught in a shortage when .22 was impossible to find.

Unfortunately my local WM has the very worst Sporting Goods section in the surrounding area. I'm sure each local manager is in charge of ordering stock, and our local manager must be, ....a home decorator or something. I only go there if my wife asks me to pick up something from their local ad. I sometimes make a sweep through the SG area, but it is mostly the usual fishing and miscellaneous sports items. We don't even rank a "Superstore", so pick'ns is slim.

I think I bought some 22 WMR there back in 2014 or so. Good thing I'm a reloader.

I have to make a return to WM tomorrow, I'll have to check their ammo.
I'd be surprised if any of the ones in this area go on any clearance binge to get rid of ammo. We're close enough to the rural areas that they'll probably be some of the last stores in the chain to stop selling ammo.

Now over in the People's Republik of Puget Sound, its likely they'll be among the first in the country to be clearing out and getting rid of all their ammo in all the stores...

FWIW, I ended up making a stop at Walmart tonight to make that return (and pick up some Listerine for a sore throat).
Looks like my local Wally world is putting all their pistol ammo on sale.
The prices don't appear to be anything to brag about yet. Winchester white box 9mm at 16 cents per round, 45 at 25 cents per round. Maybe a 10% price reduction so far?
So maybe they are implementing their no handgun ammo on a statewide basis, rather than based on local markets.
I'm going to Cabela's just across the border in Idaho tomorrow, and there just happens to be a Walmart about 3 blocks from their store. I'll have to check the ammo section there too, to see if they are doing it in Idaho as well as Washington.

Thing that shocked me was there was a salesman there at all. Usually it is empty. Must be some type of hunting season about to happen so they’re selling licenses maybe.

And I just wish the fact that Walmart didn’t pull the ammo immediately was reported. They made such a big deal saying they were going to stop to get the public support, but they are sure quiet about not wanting to take the loss of profit by pulling it immediately. I ALMOST wish a shooting took place where the ammo was traced to Walmart after they made their grand announcement. Course I don’t want to see anybody hurt, but I would enjoy Walmart getting roasted. Seems the tiny drop in revenue( compared to the rest of their profit) is worth more than the lives they claim to Want to save. Not only did I buy “assault rifle ammo” in their store, I did it at a 25% discount.

I very seldom go to WW, but was there yesterday and they had clearance prices on all handgun ammo. Prices not that great but about 10% off.

Picked up 9mm for 15c a round. they had 40 & 45 on sale also.

The WM near me has combined their SG, paint, and auto counters. The upside is that their is always a clerk at the counter, mostly because their is a line for “soft velvet beige“ paint and tires. I recently asked the clerk if they had any 45-70. He brought out a box of .45 ACP.

As I mentioned in the other thread I've been working part time at the local wally world for the last couple years. Our store just started marking down the ammo this week. Not sure how they figured the markdown amounts, seems to vary depending on box size. At first I thought they just used the employee 10% figure but checking against the old prices some are @ 15% while others are closer to 5%. Some are still a pretty good deal anyway as the prices were already lower than anyone else close by sold the same ammo for. I guess they must be close to clearing out the area warehouse or corporate is getting antsy and want to move it out quicker. I am sure the sight of those yellow "clearance" tags will have sales picking up again like they did when they first announced they were getting rid of the handgun and "short barreled rifle" (?) ammo.

Just left the local WM,only thing that was on sale was some 9mm and they were out. I did pick up a 550 round box of Federal 22's for 19.99, still not a bad price.

Gentleman at the counter had no idea if corporate would lump in 22's with their pistol ammunition discontinuation. He said the higher ups were pretty silent on the whole thing.

I stopped the other day. Asked for a box of 357 magnum, the clerk handed me a box of 357 sig . Handgun calibers are practically wiped out. The one good thing I would rather shop at Academy anyway.

WW here had Federal .223 for $25 for a 100 round box, and 200 round boxes for $49.50.

I bought three of the 200 round boxes, and six of the 100 round boxes. 1200 total rounds for $297 OTD, and I might go back for more!

Now, is this hoarding, or just planning ahead?

I checked the local WM this evening. Most of the handgun ammo was marked down between 5%-15%, plus some .22 RF. Rifle and shotgun ammo was not marked down. I did buy a couple of boxes of Winchester steel case 9mm FMJ for $7/box. Not a great price but not terrible either. They had about a dozen boxes of it on the shelf.

Just went to WM today and almost everything except 22LR and shotgun ammo was marked clearance. Bought Federal 115 gr 9mm 50 round boxes @ $7/box. Federal 40 S&W 100 round @ $25/box and Winchester 5.56 200 round pack @ $49/box. Just don't have as much fun money since retiring :-( This was all brass case/reloadable ammo!

I happened to stop in a couple of weeks ago for a particular item that nobody else stocks. On my way back to the SG department I passed a guy with a cart FULL of shotgun shells. I asked him if there was a sale or something. He was buying all of their 12ga steel shot at $4.00 per box. Turned out he was a contract bird killer working for vineyards and orchards. GREAT buy for him!

I get back there and there was lots of 12ga lead in #4 & #6. I have plenty of that for upland bird hunting. So looked to see what they had in #7 or 8 and in 20ga. I cleared what was left of the #7, 7.5, and 8 in 12ga and got all the 20ga in 7, 7.5, and 8. There was only about 40 boxes total but worth clearing the shelves of trap shooting shells.

When I asked what the deal was, I was told that it was all out of date and being sold for $4 a box. When I question him further he said it was all over 3 years old and had been sitting in the back that long. I sure am glad that ammo doesn't seem to rot after it is 3 years old. I had him check for more and got excited when he returned pushing a 6 wheel cart stacked full. Bummer for me, because what he returned with was all new stock to refill the shelves with.

Later when I was putting my bargain ammo away on my shelves, I discovered that I had 5 boxes of 28ga that was mixed in with my 20ga. Seems the boxes were the same size and color and in my haste to fill my cart I had not noticed them. Once I saw what 28ga sells for, it turned my frown into a smile. I took it to the local club and promptly found a 28ga shooter. He was more than happy to swap me 2 boxes of 20ga for each box of 28ga. So I am pretty well stocked for trap nights for a while.

Thanks Wal-Mart. :)
