Walmart Ammo Purchase - Adult Leadership Needed

Sounds like there are a bunch of imbeciles working at your Walmart.

Stopped by Walmart today and found the ammo cabinet empty. When I asked an employee, standing right by the unlocked & empty cabinet, if Walmart stopped selling ammo she waived her hand and said “Wind.” I said I was sorry but that made no sense, was the company out of the ammo business? Same idiotic response several times. Finally I asked if the recent wind storm swept all the ammo out from inside the store and she shook her head yes. Not to be undone I sought out another employee and asked about ammo. She told me to go to the pharmacy. I said I did not need medicine, I needed ammo. She asked me what ammo was and I said bullets for a gun. Still no recognition so I asked, nicely, if she spoke English. With that she stalked off in a hough. Next stop, another Walmart closer to home and no problem. When I asked if Walmart was going out of the ammo business this employee, who understood me, said not that he knew of. Just my story, you can draw your own conclusions.

...and they want $15.00/hr to provide replies like that.

I was picking up some fishing gear at the local WM and had a bag of tennis balls with me. The guy in the sporting goods department asked me if they were for fishing. He was joking. I laughed and told him they were for my dog and I'd be back in 18 days to get another bag. He asked what kind and I told him he's a cattle dog and pops a ball in about 10 throws. I followed by saying my other dog was great at fetch and never popped a ball. He asked what kind of dog was that one. I told him he was a Briard. He told me he was on his 5th Briard.

He's also into guns and lives out west of me in the rural area and is worried about Coyotes. Cool guy to talk with.

Why was I shopping at WM? My purchases would have been way more $$$ anywhere else for the exact same stuff.

WM has some good employees but you have to weed through the zombies sometimes to find the good ones.

I could never work retail like that. I have and didn't last a month. I like people and am quite friendly and have sold furniture successfully too but always preferred the trades. I like to be outside.

Years ago I went in the local Walmart to buy some 8mm soft point Mauser ammo. The crabby old man who runs the sporting dept told me we don’t stock military ammo. They had boxes of 7.62x39 ammo on the counter. I shook my head and left. We went on vacation in Maine a week later. The Walmart up there had 8mm ammo. Me and the gal in the sporting goods dept had a conversation about hunting and guns. It was awesome to see someone with knowledge about guns and hunting. She was going hunting with a 357 marlin rifle for deer. How cool.

Prescription ammo? Great idea, we go see the ammo doctor, he writes the script then we go to Walmart and it gets filled. One more wrench in the gears of life. Lol.

Stock up on reloading supplies.

I have very mixed emotions concerning Walmart.

WAY back in the day, around 1981, I was stationed at Kings Bay, GA, and a small group of reloaders on my ship (USS Simon Lake, AS-33) would make an occasional run up to Walmart in Brunswick for reloading supplies. That Walmart was in an old closed-down Winn Dixie grocery store, so it wasn't very big by today's 'Super Center' standards, but they had a GREAT selection of reloading components, and were cheaper than anybody else. I thought then that Walmart was absolutely Heaven-sent. Walmart had a pretty good selection of handguns back then as well.

Things at Walmart seemed to change with the advent of the Super Centers.

I live most of the time in Central Florida, but I do have a second home near Kyles Ford, TN, and spend about a week each month up there.

I haven't set foot in a Florida Walmart in years. However, when I'm up in TN, its completely different, and I am a Walmart customer up there. I usually hit the Walmarts in Rogersville, Unicoi, or up in Jonesville, VA. The folks working the Walmarts in NE TN seem to be a lot more friendly & knowledgeable, most notably in the Sporting Goods dept. Customers up there are a lot more friendly as well, and more often than not a Walmart trip for me in NE TN or SW VA usually ends up with meeting a new and interesting person, or having a chat with one of the folks I've gotten to know up there.

I won't even say much about the Walmart situation in Florida, and it's absolutely worse in the lager cities & towns. For the most part, both the staff and the customers are folks I just don't care to spend my time with. Florida is heading to Hell in a handbasket.

My family moved to Florida's Panhandle from Scotland, via western North Carolina, in 1816, settling in Euchee Valley, just south of what is now DeFuniak Springs. We have a very long & proud history here, including service in the 1st Fla Regiment in the fracas of '61,but I've just about had it.

As soon as I can get Mrs. Titan Tom to retirement, I think we're Tennessee bound. When we get there, I won't mind a visit to Walmart at all.

Last I knew Walmart starting pay is $11.00/hour. Well above minimum wage. They also reject more applicants than they hire.

One near me always has a well stocked ammo cabinet. The sporting goods manager has to have a LTC, so that the store can sell ammo. (state law). A couple other employees went out on their own and got their LTCs as well. That was so they could intelligently answer questions.

Overall I find Walmart employees friendly and helpfui. I contrast that to HD employees, who will make up an answer just to get rid of you.

I don't work for Walmart and don't plan to, so my opinion is that of a customer.

That’s the kind of customer service you get paying minimum wage. Their business model revolves around cheap prices and minimum wages employees don’t give a rats a** if you buy or not. Put them on commission and they starve to death.

After being mistreated twice by Walmart in the '90s I have never again purchased ammo from them.
First time they wanted me to sign for handgun ammo. The manager told me it was the law. I told him it most certainly was not, but he refused to budge. When I signed, I put a birthdate of 1918 - I was 45. They didn't notice, nor likely care.
Second time I was taking two of our sons to a shooting event and did not have enough ammo, and to go to the nearest gun store would have added close to an hour, so we went to Walmart, five minutes away. I took our sons with me to the ammo counter and the clerk berated me for exposing my sons to such dangerous and evil activity. I walked out and just accepted that we'd be an hour+ late.
So, I won't spend a penny with them for gun stuff, so I don't care what they do.

I went to purchase a one day range pass at the local Walmart and the salesperson actually told me that I had to have passed a hunters safety course to purchase one.
I guess they must find their employees at the bottom of some barrel in a dump.

If you are going to post a fictional story, you need to try to make it somewhat realistic...that there was not one but several Walmart employees to actually talk to? Come on...nobody is going to believe that. :D

I wish my story was fictional but my contact w/WM employees has not been great. They don’t seem to give a hoot whether you get service or not and I’ve had WM employees walk away from me when I ask a Q. Try asking for a manager to complain and you’ll have a loooooog wait. I’m pretty much done w/WM.

We have two WM here they are both 30 min away and if you ask a clerk where something is, they will walk you to it, even if its at the other end of the store.

I think the quality of a Wal-Mart varies greatly with where they are located. Some are good and some suck. Just depends on where its at and the employee base available in that area.
My local Wal-Mart is pretty good and I shop there fairly often.
My biggest complaint is they have 25 check outs, but only 2 are open.

I had a question about an item and waited for the only clerk in the electronics dept. to finish chatting with a tattoed gal, facial piercings and sleeves showing. When I asked here about it the gal with the tats who looked to me to be about 17 said "I'll show him Katie". She walked me to the case unlocked it and went over all my questions along with adding more info. Then she said "Katie will have to ring you up, as I have logged out for the day. Do you need anything else in Electronics?" She walked me over to the register and I thanked her. Katie told me she was her boss's boss and "the most awesome supervisor I ever had".
Somedays you get more than you pay for.

Somedays you get more than you pay for.

You do, don't you? I like your story, and it proves once again that a book can't be judged solely by its cover.

In Kernersville, NC....
The big Walmart on South Main street.

There is an employee who is 100% totally deaf.
She normally works the Housewares section stocking shelves and putting up updated price changes.

Get her attention, draw her a picture of what you are looking for and she will take you straight to it, no matter where in the store it's located........She is amazing.........

Ask the ones who can hear, and speak English and they have no clue what-so-ever.....

I live in a smaller town, so like it or don't, Walmart is kind of like our mall. At some point, you will run into everybody in town that you have ever known in Walmart. WM is where you can go to find about anything for daily life. Along with shoes, fish for your aquarium, groceries, hardware, auto supplies, etc. they have long guns and ammo.

Well, they did until a few days ago anyway. I had not been in WM for a couple weeks. Was in WM in last Saturday to buy some WWB ammo. All the long guns, along with the case that held them, are gone. Shotgun shells are still available, but all metallic ammo is now in a little counter about 4' wide. I saw .22 rimfire, 9MM, .380, .45 ACP and .38 Spcl. Perhaps 30 boxes altogether. No centerfire rifle ammo at all. No clerks anywhere around that department. Found one in auto supplies. I asked if he could help me with some ammo. Asked me if what I wanted was in the little display case because that's all they had. I got he distinct impression he did not want to sell me any ammo. I asked where all the guns and other ammo went. He sullenly replied, "Remodeling". But perhaps all the guns, and most ammo, being gone has nothing to do with current events, is just due to remodeling, and I'm becoming a conspiracy theorist in my old age;)
