Walmart ammo rationing

I went to my local Walmart last week, and low and behold, lots of .22 long rifle ammunition. There were no bricks, but alot of boxes of 50 rounders. So I was going to buy 10 boxes. Nope, what I was told was that from now on, all ammo purchasers would be limited to only 6 boxes of ammo, no matter what kind. Anyone else getting rationed?

Not much thought went into this 6 box limit. You got 300 rounds but could have gotten 3300 rounds if they had bricks available. What kind of logic is being used? Oops, forgot we are talking about Walmart.

Same 6 box limit here but there are no boxes of ammo to ration. Seems to be working well

Sounds like a good idea to me. That way the first person that gets there when they put it on the shelf can't buy it all.

They have had those signs up here for a few months. You can buy what ever kind of ammo you want, with the 6 box limit. Depending on what you are buying, it could be a little or a lot.

I have heard from a fellow shooter at the range one day that the WW by his house told him he could only buy 2 boxes. I told him about the 6 box limit and he was going to check into it.

None of the WW around me have had anything I wanted or needed even before they put up the 6 limit signs.

Wish my local WMs had some 9mm on the shelves. I'd be happy to abide by a 6 box limit. I'd have a few friends or family members with me so that they can get their limit to.

I don't have a problem with the limit, I just wish I could actually find some ammo there to buy even 1 box. I haven't seen a box (of any count) of 22 here in months.

My Gander Mtn used to have a 2 box limit sign which has been gone for a while now. I haven't noticed one at Wal Mart. One of my local dealers has a 2 box limit sign.... for 9mm only.

Sounds like a good idea to me. That way the first person that gets there when they put it on the shelf can't buy it all.

A couple of months ago, I went to my local Wal-Mart for ammo. They had exactly 1 box of shotgun shells in the cabinet. I asked the clerk when they got their ammo in, and she said they had no notice, it just appeared. She then asked me what I needed. I told her I just wanted a couple of 100 round boxes of WWB 9mm. She told me to wait a minute, and went in the stockroom and got them for me. They apparently were trying to fool the hoarders.

Anyway, try asking.

I bought a new "Wally World Special" stainless Ruger 10/22 about a week and a half ago. They had one box of 100 CCI MINI-MAG HP's and a bunch of the 50 round Federal Lightning for $1.47 per box of fifty.

After the gun deal was done, I said I wanted some .22 ammo. He told me about the six box limit...but "since I was buying a gun" he let me get seven boxes. I took the last box of CCI and six of the Federal. 400 rounds of .22 rimfire.

While I was waiting for my background check to go through, a truck driver from Ohio bought six 100 round white boxes of 9mm Winchester. 600 rounds of 9mm.

The clerk screwed up though...WalMart in New York requires seeing a pistol permit for any ammo that can be used in a pistol. He forgot to ask the guy if he had a New York permit until after he'd rung up the sale and gave the guy change. He (the sales clerk) basically said screw it and let the guy have the ammo.

Also, I had to talk them out of wrapping my new Ruger rifle box up in shipping tape in order to leave the store with it. The clerk told me that was the law. I called BS on that one and asked to see the store manager. I explained that I was a collector and didn't want MY BOX ruined with shipping tape. It took some work on my part, but the young manager finally agreed to carry the boxed rifle out to my truck for me, sans shipping tape.

Some Walmarts limit ammo sales, some do not. This has been going on for a few months now. Reported limits are two boxes at some, six boxes at others. The sign at the one nearest me says that this limit (6 there) does not apply to shotgun shells, only to handgun and rifle ammo. However since the ammo isn't locked up, you could simply take the ammo up front and pay for it, take it to your car, go back and do it again. Some of the signs also specify "per visit". If you want out the door and come back in, that is a new visit.

At Wal-Marts around here, the shotgun ammo is on regular store shelves...rifle and pistol (including .22 ammo) is locked in a glass case.

Woman Arrested Shortly After Threatening Several With Handgun​

On July 10th 2009, just before 5:00 P.M., Deputies of the Clallam County Sheriff.s Department were dispatched to the Wal*Mart located at 3500 East Highway 101 to a report of a disturbance. Wal*Mart employees were escorting a female customer out of the store and requested the Sheriff.s Department to trespass her from their property.
Shortly after the first request for law enforcement, deputies were informed that the woman, 37 year old Port Angeles resident, Teresa Dumdie, had walked back to her vehicle, armed herself with a handgun, and then drove over to where employees and customers were at. According to witnesses, Dumdie pointed the handgun at several men, women, and children while making threats that she was going to kill them and .blow up. the store.
Dumdie was observed leaving the parking lot by responding deputies. Deputies detained Dumdie across the street while other deputies made contact with several victims and witnesses. As the result of the investigation, deputies discovered that they had probable cause to arrest Dumdie and to apply for a search warrant for her vehicle. Inside the vehicle deputies discovered a loaded .22 cal semi-automatic handgun on the passenger seat of the vehicle under a jacket.
Dumdie was arrested and booked into the Clallam County Correctional Facility for 8 counts for Assault in the first degree. This case has been forwarded to the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for formal charging on Monday.​
