Is it the "relic" or period-looking cowboy loads with the old style writing on the box? JEEZZZ!!!!!!At that price, I'll take what is there. You are NOT going to get it for that here in Alaska...........!!"OOOOOPPPPSS"---my bad!!! Thought that was a 50 round box..............Guess I'd be wanting some very good ammo for a buck a round..............

Man, that stuff is EXPENSIVE! I just looked at a 50 round box of the stuff I have sitting on my desk. It is marked $15.99, but I paid about $10.00 a box when I bought it. I got a deal because the business was getting out of selling guns and ammo and I bought all they had, a whole case (ten boxes).

Of course, that was in 1981!

I rarely shoot factory ammo in .45 Colt anymore. I am almost out and am too broke/cheap/thrifty/spoiled by my handloads (pick one) to buy any more when this is gone.

It is good stuff. The bullet is a fairly soft lead and has a concave, sort of hollow base and upsets to fill the bore size of whatever you are shooting. It doesn't lead the barrels of any of my guns. It cycles well through a Winchester M-94 and a Marlin owned by friends. The brass is great for reloading, so save it. I am also sitting on a couple thousand of the same unloaded bullets W-W sells in bulk.

The cowboy action shooting loading that Sprefix mentions is loaded slower and uses a different bullet.

It is good to see ammunition in more calibers back in the stores.

My local Walmart has the Winchester 45 Colt ammo you mentioned. I am a long time fan of the grand old 45 Colt cartridge and a handloader, but I may buy a box or two just so Walmart may keep stocking it.

with all these Taurus Judges hittin' the marketplace, you are seeing more and more 45Colt loads on the shelves, although most of them around here are the cowboy type, or the 200 grn Gold Dot at an outrageous price for 20 of them...

Even with a round nose lead bullet, the standard traditional .45 Colt loading has always been very effective for whatever use for which it has been utilized, be it game or self defense. The combination of large diameter, heavy weight (high sectional density) and good velocity has made the expansion of hollow point bullets less important in .45 Colt than in the smaller bore handguns. I fooled around handloading the old Speer 200 grain "flying ash tray" j.h.p. way back before it was a factory load, and it works fine, but it hits to a different point of impact from the 250-255-260 grain lead bullets I usually use and have my guns sighted for.

If I was limited to one factory load for the .45 Colt, this 255 grain Winchester would be it.

I have bought some of this ammo a couple of times. I am a trucker, and I check out ammo at a lot of WM in lots of states. I am seeing this ammo in lots of WM all over the country.
