My two Walthers, one a P-1, manufactured by Walther in Germany, and one a PP .32 made by Manurhin for the Swedish Police, are both date-marked on the gun itself in the form 10/66. The magazines for the P-1 are also date-marked and I have always assumed they were original to the gun. Look closely on the frame and slide.

The early post war Manurhin/Walther pistols have the two digit date as Alk8944 has stated. The later production has the letter code, as:
A=0 B=1 C=2 D=3 E=4 F=5 G=6 H=7 I/J =8 K=9.
Note: The letter J is used only on magazines.

You may find the date as a 2-digit year next to an antler-shaped proof mark on the barrel chamber. Enjoy!

As said above, check the chamber surface through the ejection port.

If there is a two-digit number before the antler, 61 or higher, that’s the year of proofing. If there is a letter code, it’s 1977 or later.
