Walther PPQ-45?

Gang I've owned a Walther P99AS 9mm for a few months and it is a PEACH of a gun.

Have been eyeing the new(ish) Walther PPQ-45 in .45 ACP. I love the big round and my SIG P220 and 1911s are dandy, but the PPQ holds 12+1 in a flush magazine. That's a 50% increase in firepower.

I'm reading good things about the PPQ-45 but figured I ask the S&W forum for some feedback on this gun if anyone has one or has shot one and your thoughts on the pistol in general.

So anyone care to share?

I don't have one but I was in the same camp as you. I'm a .45ACP fan (SIG 1911, P220, S&W 4566, Springfield XDs), but I decided I want to try a fullsize polymer .45ACP. My final choices were the M&P .45 2.0, SIG P320, and Walther PPQ-45.

The PPQ has gotten rave reviews everywhere I've sniffed around. The 12 round capacity is a huge advantage also. I decided on the P320 for a few reasons that are no fault of the PPQ. One was price as I got great MIL/LE pricing on it, and second, I'm ordering a 9mm X-Change Kit for it in a different frame size. I was dissapointed not to round out my M&P collection with a .45ACP but the SIG just has a better trigger and I like the modularity concept. My price on the SIG P320 with night sights was also cheaper than the M&P with night sights so go figure on that one. Anyway, the PPQ was neck and neck with the P320 in my decision process but in my case I saved some money and wanted the longer barrel length, but I sure wish the P320 held 12 rounds.

I’ll say that I’ve had mine since they first came out. Was a little skeptical at first being a first for Walther. Have a few other PPQ’s, and really like them. My Q45 has been flawless in over 800+ rounds. You won’t regret buying one. Ron

I've put about 1000 rounds thru the PPQ 45 during the last 11 months and it continues to impress me with its accuracy and great trigger. That's about as good as I can shoot any handgun at 10 yards.

My next pistol. I have a PPQ 9 and have been very pleased with it.
I have been longing for the PPQ .45 for a long time now and have shot a buddy's. Love it!
I am content with my newest purchase, the M&P .45 2.0, but the PPQ .45 will absolutely be mine one day.

I've put 1000+ rounds thru my PPQ 45 without any kind of malfunction whatsoever. Everything from FMJ to JHP has run flawlessly and has been consistently accurate when I do my part.

Is it perfect? Nope. There are things Walther could definitely improve. I'd like the grip surface to be slightly more aggressive. The relative light weight of the pistol combined with the normal recoil of .45 ACP makes it a challenge for those of us with medium-small hands to prevent shifting between shots. I usually find myself needing to re-grip after 2-3 shots in rapid succession.

The notch in the rear sight is wider than 'standard', leaving a lot of daylight on either side of the front sights and that (for me) means it takes longer to line-up perfectly than, say, one of my CZ's or Sigs. It's not terrible and eventually I will replace the factory sights with something I like better but Walther could've done a better job.

Those are my only real criticisms of the PPQ 45. I kept a CZ 75 Compact on my nightstand for a very very long time. I never thought I would find another pistol I could trust as much but, the PPQ 45 has proven itself as a worthy replacement. If I had to go into battle on a moment's notice, it would be my first choice.

It was several months before I could take it to an outdoor range and stretch it out to 25 yards but, managed to land 25-26 on-target using a dead-center sight picture. Not bad for the first time, I guess. Definitely not bad for a geezer just goofing-around with friends at the range on a Saturday afternoon. I don't shoot my 1911's any better than that and my PPQ 45 cost 3-4x less. That still blows my mind.
