Look on Gunbroker and other sites. I saw 6 pages of .22 just for Federal ammo. They are right, we are our own worst enemy. If folks keep paying the " ripoff " prices they are charging .22 LR will never come back on the shelves !

I wish Gunbroker would stop letting people resell ammo like that.
Sure no one is making us pay the prices they are asking but that is exactly why we have a shortage of some ammo types - especially .22LR.

I guess I have spouted off enough..... I just wish things would return to normal..... whatever that is anymore. This new century sucks..

Rant over. sorry if I offend anyone out there.

I can reload any of my favorite pistol cartridges for less than the inflated 22LR prices. I'll just wait for the panic to subside.

We have a scalper here who haunts our local gun board. He is notorius. When he posted 50 round boxes of Stingers for $25 a box I just had to pipe up. "How many boxes do you want to buy at $25?" I asked... "No man, I'm selling not buying!" was his response. I then asked him if he would trade for some Ragu. "Spaghetti Sauce, Why?" he replied. "Because I hope you eat it" was my reply.

They tossed me off that board this morning... :)

Sometimes that sort of sarcasm is called for and totally appropriate SS!;)

This is my philosophy. I do have .22 cal firearms. I don't have to shoot them. I also have some, though not a crazy amount, of .22 ammo. I don't have to shoot it, either.

I'm patient, and I can wait.

Don't really care much for the phrase "we are our own worse
enemy" because i don't believe it's actually gun people and shooters
who do this.
Bunch of losers with few to zero guns is probably the case.
I too hope they have to eat their product and i won't be the chump
feeding this frenzy.

I hope they choke on it too. Why they sell any at those prices is because when people see 22lr on the shelf they think its the last rimfire ammo on the face of the earth. They buy the maximum amount and then some. this reinforces the impression that there is no more 22lr ammo anywhere on earth.

Pretty soon supply will catch up with demand and the hoarders and hucksters will realize that they can't eat rimfire ammo. I expect to see lots of people dumping their stockpiles by Christmas.

Much like those $80 Pmags were at one time. Give it time and the .22lr will be back to a reasonable normal. Those Pmags are down to around $13 now days. BIG price difference between now and then.

I don't know about the prices coming down any time soon, at least not in this neck of the woods. haven't seen any on the shelves lately.

I have almost stopped shooting 22 lr for now. I love the round but I refuse to pay stupid prices for it. Plus I am tired of constantly searching for in stock 22 lr in the stores that don't gouge. I used to shoot 4 matches a month 3 were 22 only and the plate match I shot centerfire and rimfire. I am down to 1 22 match and the round count is a max of 50. One match we decided to switch to centerfire because ammo was easier to find. Now that I cast my own bullets I can load 38 special and 9mm for around 6.5 cents per round. If it ever gets reasonable again and easier to find I might start enjoying my 22's more again. It's a shame too I love my 22's.

THIS. I swear sometimes it sounds like people who can't burn a couple of hundred rounds every weekend are gasping for air. It will come back. Do something else in the mean time. I have enough good SD ammo for the one highly unlikely occasion I might need it, and a little left over for feeble participation in the resistance before it's crushed by Postal Service employees. I'm good. But these are fun to read.

Every time I start to agree that "we are our own worst enemies" something happens to restore my faith in my fellow gunners. Last week I was in my LGS in a vain attempt to find pistol powder. An oldtimer overheard me ask for HP38. As I was leaving he stopped me. Short story, he sold me two pounds of HP38. He charged me what he had paid for them, $20 per pound. As I thanked him he said something that kind of made me sad. He said, "That's okay, I have more than I will ever shoot."

The guys hoarding and flipping 22LR are doing nothing illegal. I just won't give them my business. I'll bide my time and let my grandkids shoot light 38 spl loads.

I too am dismayed by the lack of availability of .22lr....but please note that the high priced sellers are not the cause of the shortage they are the consequence of it. IF I were to sell any .22lr I would want premium prices for it since I cannot go down to the store and find more. I have quite a bit and it is NOT for sale since I can't replace it readily. FWIW I bought it before the madness and for many years have simply been trying to keep a supply and buy more as I shoot some of what I have. For the past 2 years I've cut back on shooting.22lr and haven't been able to restock at all. I guess I'm a "hoarder" but I sure haven't caused the shortage.

I was willing to pay a high price on a Winchester 555rd. pack a while back, simply b/c I wanted my kids to shoot.

Right now I only can get ELEY ammo, made in the U.K. that have a MSRP from $16.00 to $26.95 for a box of 50

I was at "Shooters World" in Lomira, WI, yesterday and they had CCI standard velocity, about 100 boxes of 50-rounders, at $5 each, with a 4-box limit. That's 20 bucks for 200 bullets or 10 cents each. With tax 21 and change out the door. The sales guy said "Sheesh, these were four bucks apiece the other day." We chatted awhile and he said the store had 11 MILLION ROUNDS on back order and didn't expect to get filled for TWO YEARS. Seems to me the "panic" is a long way from being over, if ever. If there is a silver lining, the AR-15's were deeply discounted and sitting on the shelves whereas a year or so ago you couldn't find one. Whether .22LR will supply will ever outstrip demand is highly doubtful, however.

Don't expect GB to stop them that's how they make money. A percentage of each sale is paid to the site.
